A colleague has provided additional details on several of the Ft Fisher CAIN
men. One error ... David was not the Lt ... it was Isaac J. Cain who
originally enlisted as sergeant but was later promoted.
I am re-listing the names ... any with updated info are shown with **
asterisk. I will resend updates as I learn more details on these men.

Fort Fisher civil war roster: 14 Cain men from Bladen County. They are as
follows:
Beaman was wounded when Fort Fisher fell and later died of his wounds.
Beaman b. ca 1845 was son of Meredith & Mary Ann (Dew) Cain; grandson of
______________???
Calvin, could be?? ... Calvin Musgrove Cain b. 1845 son of Peter & Sarah Ann
(Jones) Cain; grandson of Cornelius Cain
D. F. (this is Doc Franklin), b. 1836 son of Amos & Hannah (Reeves) Cain;
grandson of James & Mary (Meeks) Cain.
** Doctor Franklin Cain enlisted as a Private on 20 Nov 1862 at age 25 and no
further details.
** David R .... not sure ... is this also a son of Amos & Hannah (Reeves)
Cain; grandson of James & Mary (Meeks) Cain???
Isaac, ... is this son of Amos & Hannah (Reeves) Cain; grandson of James &
Mary (Meeks) Cain?
** Isaac J Cain enlisted on 19 Oct 1861 at age 27 as a Sergeant and promoted
to Full Lieutenant 2nd class on 10Nov 1864. Captured and confined at Fort
Columbus, NY and paroled on 5 Mar 1865 at Boulware' s wharf, Va.
** Isham died of disease in Columbus Co, Isham is believed to have been the
son of James Cain, Jr and grandson of James & Mary Meeks Cain. He enlisted as
a Private on 1 Mar 1862 at age 45 and died of pneumonia at his home in
Columbus County.
John A., unless he was only 8 or 9 yeas old, I have no idea who this is.
John J, ...... unknown parentage or age
John S., .... according to my notes, he is b. ca 1842 son of _______ & Mary
E. (????) Cain.
His siblings are assumed to be Harriet, Samuel, Ellen, Ann, Susan, James
H., Margaret Cain
Joshua died at Camp Elmira, ... b. ca 1843 son of John & Celia (Suggs) Cain;
grandson of ____________???
Matthew, ....unknown
Robert B, could be Robert Bunyan Cain b. 1828 son of George W. & Elizabeth
(McLain) Cain; grandson of Wm & Rachel Cain.
Samuel R, the only Sam R that I have was in Cumberland county in 1850, son of
Joseph & Sydney (Singletary) Cain.
Wiley ... born 1828, son of Wm & Catherine (Unknown) Cain; speculated that he
is grandson of James & Mary (Meeks) Cain
** Also, Marshall Pointer Cain is known to have been there but was discharged
for medical reasons. Marshall Pointer Cain enlisted on 10 May 1862 at age 19
and received disability discharge on 30 Oct 1862 at Fort Fisher.
** Also Larkins Bedsole is on the same Ft Fisher roster. He was son of
Duncan Bedsole & his 2d wife Catherine Hair. So he is brother-in-law of Wiley
Cain.
