My gr gr gr grandmother was Sarah Dorcus Cain. According to the family Bible, she was born
23 Oct 1811, place unknown. She married Pliny Sadler Black on 29 Jan 1829 in Tuscaloosa
AL(marriage record & Bible record). They were in Hinds or Madison Co, MS for the next
ten years(deed records). She died in Hinds or Madison Co MS on 5 Feb 1839. She had one
son who survived to adulthood, Herman Cain Black, born 30 July 1830 in Madison Co MS. Her
husband, after her death, left Herman with his sister Ann Gelina Black to raise and moved
to Texas in Dec 1839. I don't know anything else about Sarah Dorcus Cain. I know that
Patrick Cain lived in Tuscaloosa Co AL and married Mary Hubbard there in 1816, then at
some time moved to Carroll Co MS. Does anyone know if he had been married earlier and
that Mary Hubbard was his second wife? Or could he be an uncle to Sarah Dorcus Cain? I
know there had to be some kind of family in Tuscaloosa for Sarah Dorcus Cain to be living
with in 1829, since s!
he was only 17 years old when she married.
Pliny Sadler Black was from York Co SC and there are Cains there also, but I have not
found any connection. Any help would be appreciated.
