The data I now have shows Aaron Cain to have been born in 1825 in the
Pickens District (now Oconee County) of SC. His younger brother, Joel was
born at the same place in 1844. They both died at the Battle (or Siege) of
Petersburg, VA on July 30, 1864, when "Yankee sappers" dug a tunnel under
the Confederate earthworks and exploded 8,000 pounds of gunpowder (to
breach the earthworks).
That family database does not show the names of Joseph C. Cain, or Claude
Burris Cain. The nearest thing I have is Claud (spelling ?) born in 1892
in Grayson County, TX. He had a twin sister named Maud (spelling ?). I
have no further info on either of the twins.
The parents of the twins were William Handy Pickens Cain and Anna Louiza
Gibson, the daughter of Andrew Jackson Gibson and Mary Ann Whitfield.
William Handy Pickens Cain was born October 15, 1852 in the Pickens
District of SC, and died June 5, 1934 in Dennison, Grayson, TX.
His parents were Aaron Cain (who died at Petersburg) and Mariam Cole, the
daughter of Samuel Cole and Charlotte B. Harper. The parents of Aaron and
Joel were William Cain, Sr. (born November 17, 1795 in the Washington
District of SC, and died March 12, 1862 in the Pickens District of SC) and
Mary Pauline Mason (born 1805 in the Pendleton District of SC, and died
March 15, 1883 in the Pickens District (Oconee County) SC .
The parents of William Cain, Sr. were John Francis Cain (born 1760 in VA,
died ?)
and Martha S. Jefferson, whom he married about 1778. The parents of John
Francis were William C. Cain, Sr. (b. 1740 DE, d. Abt 1833 NC) and Hannah
Stanfield (1760 VA - ?), the daughter of John and Mary Jane Stanfield.
The records I have show the parents of William C. Cain, Sr. to be James
Cain, Sr. (1710 williamsburg, VA - ?) and Margaret Googe (? - ?), whom he
married in 1735.
I hope some of this info is helpful. Tom Cain (tomcain(a)iname.com)
