Dear "Mom", "Lynnhen" and others of the Peter/Daniel Cain puzzle.
I am convinced that much of the problem with interpreting the Peter and Daniel Cain
lineages is that there are to many Peters (apparently none with middle names) and at least
two Daniels. There is also, I believe, to few primary sources cited to help substantiate
the identity of the major players in this puzzle.
As far as I can tell, the nationality of Peter Cain is not substantiated. Our family
claims it is Scotch-Irish but others have claimed him to be German. Are there any
immigration or naturalization sources to settle this question?
What I think I know of our Cain lineage is:
4 - John Crittenden Cain (my great grandfather) b. 02 Nov. 1865 - Mercer Co., MO; d. 22
Aug. 1940 Los Angles CA - m. Martha Allen Walker
3 - Peter Cain b. 11 Nov. 1818 - Knox Co., KY; d. 03 April 1874 - Mercer Co., MO
m. 03 Nov. 1841 - Missouri Ann Mullins - Grundy Co., MO
2 - Daniel Cain b. circa 1780 - Rowan Co., NC; d. 03 July 1862 - Knox Co., KY
m. (1) - 24 Mar. 1808 - Temperance Vannoy - Knox Co., KY
(2). Mary Sallee - ?Knox Co., KY
1 - Peter Cain - d. 1814 - Knox Co., KY
m. Catherine (one suggestion is that she was an Engle)
Peter's will lists Catherine, Daniel, Jesse and Susannah as heirs.
Any corrections or primary sources related to this "our Cains" would be
appreciated.
