Dear John,
Thank you so much for sharing the information about Rootsweb - and the
difficult time they are having. We ALL need to hear what you shared!
I did send them some money this year and am so glad I did. There is no
way you can put a money value on the information I have gleaned in just
one year as a Roobsweb user but I sent them a donation in memory of what
would have been my parents' 58th wedding anniversary. I plan to
contribute every year.
I will repeat for the list what I told you in a private message in
June: you were the helpful person on the CARR-L list who put me in touch
with a Carr cousin who published a book on my 3d gr-grandfather. That
was back in January when I was so new on the Internet. Thanks to your
help, my husband and I were able to attend the 40th annual Carr reunion
in Smith Co, MS, last April and meet many relatives. Two of my
gr-gr-grandmother's brothers and their families were buried in the
cemetery adjoing Carr Methodist Church where the reunion was
held. Now here you are on the CAIN-L list! (Sorry, I tend to
think in terms of one surname at a time when I am researching.) How
about some help with my 4th gr-grandmother, Mary CAIN, a relation on the
other side of my family?<G> She married Dirck VAN SYCKLE about 1771 in
New Jersey. Who were her parents and siblings? Maybe some of the
thousands of new Rootsweb users will be able to tell me.
Gratefully...
