-- JOHN MANNING CAIN / POOLE / PRITCHARD (PRICKETT) / SKELTON
John M. Cain was born, possibly in NC, 5 December 1779, and died in
Gwinnett Co. Ga , 8 February 1875, according to tombstone in Mt. Moriah
Bapt. Church Cemetery, Cain's district, Gwinnett Co. He is buried beside
his second wife, Edna Poole, b. July 1783, SC and died 26 Aug. 1856,
Gwinnett Co. Ga. Edna was the daughter of Adam Poole, Sr. and Esther
Manning. John's first wife was Harriet Malinda Pritchard or Prickett of
Pendleton Dist, SC where they married abt 1804, according to a family
record. The Pendleton Messenger, a newspaper, issue of 8 March 1823, p.
5, says she died on 25 Feb, 1823, leaving her husband, Mr. John Cain of
this district, and seven children. She was called Milly Cain in this
article, and says she was 35 years of age. John and Edna went to
Gwinnett Co. about 1830. The Poole family married into this Cain family
three times and many of the Pooles also went to Gwinnett Co. Ga about
the same time. Johm M. Cain is found in 1810, 1820, Pendleton census. I
would like any data anyone might find on him prior to this period. I
descend thru his son, James J. Cain, b. 1812, who married Esther
(Easter) Skelton, believed to be the daughter of William Skelton and his
wife, Martha Clark, in 1829, Anderson Co. SC. James came to Gwinnett Co.
also by 1840 census. Thelma F. Cain Prince
