Have you tried reading through the ships registers for Mays Landing for that
time period? There are amazing records of who arrived in the 1700's
sometimes.
Good luck in you searches. I am descended from Patrick Cain b abt 1765 in
Ireland. He arrived by 1790, but unsure where. I believe it to be
Maryland-Penn area.
Regards
Candy

Candy,
Thank you for your thoughts. Family history says that John Cain came to the
Mays Landing area of South Jersey around 1730 with a man named Edmund ILLIF.
I know for sure ... Thomas Cain Sr. b; 1777 d. Mar 12 1837 / Thomas Jr. b.
Aug 26 1810 d. Sep 15 1881 / Charles Edward Cain - b. Jan 4 1889 d. Apr 8
1939 / Melvin Cain b 1887 d. May 1948 / Earl Cain Sr. b 1912 d. 1981 / me
Everyone down to Earl Sr was born in Mays Landing. Cousin John never did
email, so it wasn't him. There are Cain's still in Mays Landing. My cousin
Charles lives near Mays Landing but he hasn't been involved in the family
history. His stepmother sent me some info that fit with info I had, but
there just don't seem to be any surviving records before 1800. Apparently
there were a number of fires in the town hall.
There is a Cain's Mill Road in the area. Thomas Cain started a mill. Of
course nothing is left.
There is a Historical Society in Mays Landing at "The Little Red
Schoolhouse". I have contributed to the Cain info they have.
So to finally answer your question about 1730 - 1800, I can't prove it. I
am a member of the SAR through a Ford ancestor on my mother's side. I would
love to prove to the John Cain that fought in the 3rd Battalion - Gloucester
County Militia.
All comments/thoughts most surely welcome.
Earl Cain

Earl, I corresponded with a John M Cain years back, and he may have been in
my Cain line. Do you know who your direct line is, from say 1730 to 1800? I
am not sure your cousin is the one I had emailed with, but I am very sorry
for your loss. Candy

My cousin, John M. Cain (66) passed this morning, so seeing the title of
this was a little, I guess strange, but I would like to get more
information. My Cain's have been in South Jersey since approx 1730. Email
