I would like to pass on to the list a message from the list sponsor
(Rootsweb Data Cooperative) They provide this list and the space for
the Amite county page (and most other USGenWeb County Pages) for no
charge. They are supported by member / sponsor contributions. The cost
is modest:
$12.00 / year to become a member
$24.00 / year to become a sponsor
Each sponsor may receive 25m of Web Space for an additional $12.00 /
year. Along with the Web space is the privilege of sponsoring two
Surname or regional Mail lists of your own. Details are at the URL
Below and at the end of the message.

Subject: RootsWeb in September -- 207,360,000,000 Bytes Served
Resent-Date: Sun, 26 Oct 97 06:01:34 +0000
Sorry about the latest report to date -- we've been so busy that
we just didn't have the time to compile our statistics for July
and August. Anyway, in September RootsWeb served about:
o 14,687,507 Web files (10,806,579 in June) from 1,891
Websites.
- 4,462,656 were HTML pages (not images or cgi-bin)
(3,405,973 in June).
- 1,777,881 were cgi-bin database searches and such.
(1,711,484 in June).
- 8,317,545 were GIFs (7,560,589) or JPEGs (756,956)
(5,689,122 in June were GIFs (5,220,285) or JPEGs
(468,837).
o 427,565 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives
and the ROOTS-L Library (306,827 in June).
o We've lost count of how much mail we're shipping to
the 1,900+ mailing lists we host, but last month it
was in the neighborhood of 60-90,000,000 million pieces.
o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles
to hosts on three continents (same as June).
o Approximately 207,360,000,000 bytes in total
(158,630,400,000 in June).
In summary, we've had roughly a 36% growth in Web use over
the last 3 months. Looking at the growth in number and activity
of the mailing lists, I would guess that mailing list traffic
has increased in a similar fashion.
In the last three months, we have added several new server
machines and next Monday we will begin using our second T-1
connection to the Internet. These additions have significantly
increased our costs of operation, but they were essential if
we were to continue to properly support the Internet
genealogical community.
As always, RootsWeb remains supported by user contributions.
Folks who would like to become a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor
(the cost is very modest) are invited to visit:

Thanks to everyone who participates in RootsWeb -- clearly folks
are continuing to exchanging a great deal of information! -B
