My Grgrandparents, William (1828-1892) and Margaret Jamison (1828-1898) Cain left No.
Ireland in 1864 with 4 children; Alexander (1857-1935), Mary Jane (Maynes) (1859-1939),
Anna (Counts)(1861-1934), Ellen (Hunter)(1864-1923)(my grandmother). During their time in
Illinois they had 3 more children; Lucinda (Swaney) (1865-1934), Margaret
(Cooper)(1867-1933), William J. (1870-1945). They left Illinois 1870-71 for Iowa. They
lived and died in the counties of Montgomery, Mills, Pottawattamie.
What brought them to Knox Co., Illinois? Was it a relative? Who? Their move to Iowa was
prompted by what? There was a Peter Jamison (who I believe to be Margaret's nephew)
who came to Illinois in 1866 from Ireland and then later to Iowa in 1874, following the
Cains. What ship did they sail on and what ports did they use?
If this matches anyone else's profile I would appreciate hearing from you. Would love
to figure out who they came to the U.S. to join.
