Funeral services for Dr. William Vernon Cain, 67, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10,
2009, at West Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Emmett Roper, the Rev. Bill Caudle,
the Rev. Clarence Blalock and the Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial will be in
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing
services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. Mr.
Cain died Monday at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janice Blair
Cain, Jacksonville; a son, William Christopher Cain and his wife Cindy, Jacksonville; a
daughter, Katherine (Katie) S. Cain Johnson and her husband Steve, Jacksonville; three
sisters, Martha June Donaldson, Ft. Mitchell, Cynthia Christine Cole, Fairview Heights,
Ill., and Bonnie Wilma Cain, Carrolton, Ga.; two grandsons, Nathan and Tyler Cain; four
nieces; three nephews, two great-nieces; and two great-nephews. Dr. Cain received his
bachelors and masters deg!
rees in education from West Georgia College in 1967 and 1969, and his doctorate in
special education from the University of Alabama in August 1975. He did post-graduate work
in school psychology at the University of Georgia and in administration at the University
of North Florida. He served as director of Multisystem Evaluation Center in Anniston,
providing evaluations for hard-to-test students, consultations and training services to 29
school systems in Central, East and Northeast Alabama as well as throughout the state. He
worked as a teacher, special education director, state consultant and regional program
supervisor for a multi-county learning resource system and regional coordinator for a
multi-state regional resource system. He was a member of the National Professional
Consortium in attention deficit disorders through the Medical Center of Central Georgia,
the National Association of School Psychologists and the Council for Exceptional Children.
