Dateline: Gastonia -Phillip Augustus "Gus" Cain, 83 died Saturday, May 1, 2010
at Carillon Assisted Living in Cramerton. He was a native of Gaston County and was the son
of the late Samuel Augustus Cain and Mary Grier Cain. A Celebration of his life will be
held at the First ARP Church on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 with Pastor Eddie Spencer
officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM
until 2 PM in the church fellowship hall prior to the service. Gus graduated from Gastonia
High School and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked at Wix
Corporation for 43 years and was Vice-President of Industrial Engineering at the time of
his retirement in 1992. He was a past member of the Gastonia Civitan Club and was a World
War II veteran serving in the US Navy. Gus was a lifelong member of First ARP Church and
was an Elder all of his adult life. He enjoyed visiting the sick and homebound members of
the church, as well as helping!
his pastor administer communion to them. His happiest times were spent with his family
and friends down at Lake Wylie. He was always a family man and loving husband who was so
proud of his children. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dolores McCarter Cain, son,
Samuel Andrew Cain and wife Angela of Columbia, S.C., two daughters, Robin Cain of
Gastonia and Allison Cain of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Alvin Grier Cain and wife Ann of
Gastonia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First ARP Church 317 South Chester
Street Gastonia, N.C. 28052 or Gaston Hospice P.O. Box 3984 Gastonia, N.C. 28054
