I noticed your post and had to check if you know anything about Thomas' extended
family.
My ggrandfather Michael Kane (born at sea 1849) enlisted in Co. A 74 PA Infantry (Civil
War) on February 7, 1865 in Berwick, PA. Family lore says he changed the spelling of his
name from Kane to Cain because he lied about his age. At the time, his mother and brother
John lived in Waverly (Tioga Co.), NY or Bradford Co., PA (Athens, Wysox, or Towanda), so
I don't know why Michael was in Berwick at such a young age.
In Michael's regiment, there's a Philip Cain, who I also cannot connect.
Incidentally, Michael was the son of Simon Kane. He named his only son "Thomas
Frederick Kane."
