Wondered if any of you have any Cain's in Texas. I just found my Great Great Grandmothers's name recently Rebecca Cain. The only thing I know about her is that her daughter Minerva and they were in Williamson County Texas about 1880 where her and NJ Moore were married. I also have some documentation (letter from grandmothers sister) that Rebecca's husband went by "Buck" and was a Texas Ranger....Anyone have any Cain's in Texas that can connect?

I am a Cain descendent, with Cains from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and prior to that, North County Galway, Ireland. I only know the Ireland origins due to DNA testing my father did. The Cains who have done the testing have been grouped into several very definite families with origins in various counties in Ireland, and a few in England. You may or may not find a link, or any value in the testing. Being private really doesn't apply as you can keep all of your information 100% confidential and use an alias online.
So I am a fan of the testing, as I had hit my brick wall with Patrick Cain b 1765, died in Kentucky. Could not find him anywhere at all prior to 1790. Now I know he was born in Ireland, and most likely where, and have some distant connections in Australia that are also descended from his ancestors. We are searching together now for his family in County Galway.
Good look to you in your search

I can't believe you are so interested in a DNA test to prove that we a Cain's. The Cain's were brought up to be very private about their family. In fact they didn't know about each other.
I have tried to create a family tree with great difficulty. My family is from the upper part of Michigan, Miners as they were in the Isle of Man where they came from. My great, great grandfather, John James Cain, had 17 children which made it even more difficult. I have names but I know the dates are just a guess. There are a few Cain families left in Michigan, but like I said we are a very private clan.
DNA? Sure if you think it would help and you are paying

To Janet..
I can't help with your specific question about where they landed, what ship, etc. But I can tell you that I have found that type info for many people using the "World" Ancestry.com. It cost $30.00 a month to use, but I found it worth a month or two...
My Cain's came to NJ in the early 1700's and are still here.

My grgrandparents, William (1828) and Margaret Jamison Cain (1828) came to the U.S. from No. Ireland, Co. Antrim, in 1864 with 4 children; Alexander (1857), Mary Jane (1859), Anna (1861), and Ellen (1864)(my grandmother). They settled in Illinois where they had 3 more children; Lucinda (1865), Margaret (1867) and William Jamison Cain (1870). In c. 1870 they moved to Montgomery Co., Iowa where they lived until passing in the 1890's.
Is this family scenario familiar to you in your research? I am eager to find exactly when this family sailed to the U.S., what ship, where they landed. Who did they come to join? Was it family members that enticed them to leave Ireland? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A am searching for information on Austin and Aseneth Cain. Their daughter Martha Lucinda Cain was born in Alliance, OH on May 10, 1869 and was married to Jacob Armentrout. It is my understanding that Aseneth was of Native American heritage and this is the ancestor I am trying to find. Aseneth died around October of 1904 and is buried in the Modoc, Kansas cemetery. Any information would be appreciated.

The book that I am refering to is not the book on the James Augustus Cain line of Virginia. It is the Walter Cain line out of New Jersey. Thanks anyway. I wrote the 2nd Nicholas Cain book in 1986 along with my cousin, now deceased. Ken Mossman wrote the James Cain book that includes the Hack Cain line. He and I disagree on the parentage of Nicholas Cain. DNA testing has helped to prove which thesis is correct.

Hello Joy,
I have a book that has some information in it that would be of interest to you about the Thomas Cain line. However, I am currently on vacation and won't be returning home until late next week. There seems to be some controversy about Thomas' heritage though. Two different lines of Cains are trying to claim him. I will get back with you when I return home next week.

Actually, since looking through some of the details, Charles Cain was actually born in 1835 in Studham, Hertfordshire, England, and came to the USA around 1860. I have some siblings listed for Charles, but none of them are of a Timothy. Also, I forgot to say that in the post, Timothy was Charles's son, born in New York in 1868.
But I think I read somewhere that some Cains from England moved from there to Ireland so they're not directly related but they may be distantly.

I am curious about the "Timothy Cain" as my ggrandfather was Timothy Patrick Cain from County Kerry, Ireland born about 1840. I am wondering if he could have been a brother to this William and Charles. Timothy Patrick Cain married Mary McAndrew in Ellsworth,Wisc. this is where my grandmother, Margaret Cain, was born.
