Albert Gallatin was b Mon County VA. His father migrated from Greene PA to Mon and hence to Tyler where they all ended up. Albert married Mary A. "Polly" Cain and he bought land in Tyler on what is known as Harlan Ridge above Fish Creek in 1848, his father buying land in the bottom to the north on Fish Creek in 1838.
AG was a state legislator and helped form the WV Constitution; the land was in what is now Wetzel County. The Cains were in Greene PA, Mon and Tyler VA then include Wetzel. Elsewhere as well but this predominate area, say 50 square miles or so.

I have found a Christopher Cain b. 1840-1843 in MA. Only census record found for him is in 1880 in Scott County, IL. It does not state where his parents were born. I have no further information on this gentleman except for marriage and death. There are no other Cain/Kane/Cane members in the area either. Is he maybe someone in your family? Thanks Carrie

I have a Henry C. Cain b. abt 1841 in Ohio (probably Perry Co) who married a Jane (church records say Jane Elkins) born July 15 1848 in Georgia.
The 1870 Perry Co, Ohio census gives the family as such: Henry Cain age 29; Jane Cain age 22 born Georgia; Catharine age 2 born Ohio; Julia age 1 month born Ohio; Thomas Pigg age 7 born Arkansas.
Henry Cain is the son of James and Ann Maria Decot Cain of Perry Co.
Do any on these names match up with your family??
thanks Karen

Hi Mary Williford;
This is part of a big file that relates directly to your branch of the Cain Family in Louisiana.
WILLIAM CAIN along with wife Rachel, moved to Hancock County Georgia sometime in the 1780's. The children of William and Rachel were: John Cain, James Cain, Nancy Cain, Frances (Fanny) Cain, Margaret Cain, Allen Cain, and William Cain, Jr. About 1806, William Cain Sr, with most of his family moved to the Natchez District of Mississippi in what is now Wilkinson County Mississippi.
WILLIAM CAIN, JR. Very little is known of William Cain, Jr. He, along with David Irwin and David's wife Frances (Fanny) Cain, obtained a passport in 1807 to pass through the Creek nation to the Natchez district of Mississippi where they joined the rest of the family.
ARCHIBALD W. CAIN (c1799-1869).It is not known for certain that Archibald Cain was the son of William Cain, Jr but evidence points to it Archibald was born c1799 in Georgia. In 1828, he married Sarah Ann Logan in Wilkinson County Mississippi. Sarah died after giving birth to one child, William L Cain. Archibald married next, in 1831 in Wilkinson County, Julia Ann Cox the daughter of David Cox and Sabrina Glanton. Arch and Julia had the following children: Henry T Cain (died as infant ), Franklin F Cain, Fountain Fairchild Cain, Lemuel Lafayette Cain, Lethia Cain, Carlton C Cain, Archie A Cain, Azaline Cain, Sarah J Cain, and Franklin Cain. In 1834, Arch and Julia moved to Amite County Mississippi where they lived until 1858. In 1858, the family pulled up roots and moved to Caldwell Parish Louisiana. Arch died in Caldwell parish in 1869.
Go to this site and check it out http://www.rootsweb.com/~jecain/index.htm#cain
My connection is from Frances ( Fanny ) Cain who married David Irwin in Wilkerson Co. Ms.and moved to Yazoo County,Ms.in the very early 1800's.
She married David Irwin 3 SEP 1795, son of David Irwin and Julia O'Quinn. He was born 19 JUL 1776 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi.
I would like to exchange info with you Please E-mail me.

Good Afternoon,
I am also researching the CAIN Family of Dale County,
Alabama.
My guess is that some how they were missed in the 1850
Census. But that does seem strange since they all did
not live adjacent to one another. However, if they
were there in 1840 and again in 1860; most likely they
were there in 1850 as well.
John Cain born 1814 N.C. 1840-1880, Dale County, Al.

Their Children all born in Alabama:
James Berry CAIN born 1838
Hardy CAIN born 1839
Nancy Emaline CAIN born 1841
Jenett CAIN born 1842
John William CAIN born 1843
Francis CAIN born 1845
William Henry CAIN born 1848
Harriet Angelina CAIN born 1849
Charles Hicks CAIN born 1851
Chelly CAIN born 1851
Susan Hester Ann CAIN born 1854
Daniel Shorter CAIN born 1855

I will be glad to exchange information on the
ancestors and descendants of this Cain Family.
