I can provide you with a few details about your father, Steven Armond Cain. I was married to him in Orlando, but I am not Lynn Greer. She was the mother of Chris & Corey. I have a son Jason Stephen born in 1974 and Casey (not Melissa/Melinda) who was born in 1976. I relate well to the fact that Steve & Farrell (Mr. Cain) didn't communicate much. I spent from July, 1973 until Oct, 1978 with Steve here in Orlando. His birthdate was Dec 20, 1944 and he SAID he was once a police officer in Oregon - I even have documents, tho they may be fake. I just found out today that Steve died in Washington in July 2000. I would like to hear back from you and maybe keep in touch....Besides, in addition to a half-brother & a half-sister, you have nephews and nieces. And the best thing in the world - my Mom - Granny Nannie.

Hi Doyle
Did you ever get anymore information on this family? I just discovered your posting today. The Martha Allison who married Hugh Cain in your message was the sister of my grt grt grandmother Catherine Allison (Mrs Malcolm) Henry. The only material I had for the couple (Hugh and Martha) was that Robert A Cain was their son and that he was mentioned in the will of Robert Allison, ( b 1754- d June 29 1827, York Co SC)-his grandfather. I was happy to find his burial place. Any information on him and his wife, and/or his offspring will be much appreciated. Marilyn H Moore

I have some information on the family of Robert James Cain (b. 1848 Liverpool), son of Robert Cain (b. 1826 Cork, brewer), and most of this leads him moving to St Saviour Jersey in the 1890's and a number of his sons and daughters of his being married in Jersey. I would love to share any information with someone who may also have this family in their ancestry or have come across them in searches.

My Knowledge of ancestry is very limited. I am from Florida.
My Great Grandfather Robert Bose Cain, married Bessie Hardin who was from Cuthbert GA. That is all I know. I am in search of relatives as well. I was told that I am of Indian and African American Linage. If by chance we are related please let me know. We have started a family reunion but it is very small. Most of our Patriarts are deceased and there are no other connections . Maybe you understand how I feel without
much to build from. I hope we can make a connection.
I apologize to the group even if my forwarding this message was accidental.
I had no idea it was being sent. I agree with the several replies I have
seen over the past couple of days that anything other than genealogy should
be the subject.

I don't often pass on such things, but maybe this would help drive home the
point that a clear majority do not favor the present administration policy.

Message Board Post:
Regarding Cain/Skemp families in Dubuque, Iowa. I, too, am seeking info and this is the first reference I have found on message boards. Both names are in my Williams family line and I have located the following information:
I am Audrey Harriet Williams Stanaland
born Aug. 31, 1943
Dubuque, Iowa
my great-great grandfather
Charles W. (Van) SKEMP
(family info says WIDLAKE is middle name and family name of his mother and that SKEMP was formerly Van Skemp, however info below online has popped up the name WOODLAKE which I question and I've found nothing to confirm the name was formerly Van Skemp.
Charles was Born Sept. 1, 1848, England (Devonshire or Salisbury I think)
lived in Dubuque, Iowa.
Also: found a Civil War record for him, pretty sure it is him:
Charles W Skemp
Residence: Galena, Illinois Occupation:
Service Record:
Enlisted as a Private on 20 March 1865
Enlisted in Company A, 96th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 20 March 1865.
Long before I was doing family research, my father, on a trip to England with me (my husband, etc.) in 1980 told me his grandmother was from Salisbury, where by chance we went on a daytrip out of London to Devon area.
Married: Laura Catherine Cain (my great-grandmother)
born in Dubuque, Iowa
March 22, 1851
The couple are on the 1920 census, roll T625_488, page 4B, ED138, Image 457 for Dubuque County, Julien Township, living on Grandview Avenue where my mother recalls they lived.
Census shows: living in their household in 1920 as follows: Chalres W. Skemp, head, age 71; Laura, wife, age 61, children are Edwin, son, age 30 and Clarence, son, age 29. My mother recalls that Clarence was handicapped (crippled and perhaps a bit retarded)
Other census info: Charles, born in England, father born in England and mother born in England. Occupation was contractor, Brick. (The family remembers this)
Laura's birthplace shown as New York, her father's as Ohio and her mother's as Ohio.
Edwin and Clarence shown as laborer's, Brick Co. (no doubt working for their father)
There are other children, all parents of Charles Woodlake Skemp and Laura Catherine Cain, which I've copied and pasted below, among them my grandmother:
Frank Garfield Skemp
Birth: 15 August 1887-- Dubuque, Dubuque, IA
Death: 1970 --
Spouse: Louise Lulu Lemmer
NOTE: Frank and Louise are also shown on the 1920 census, living on Bennett Street, which my mother also recalls. On the 1930 census, Frank and Louise are listed with children:
(NOTE: I have a history book, purchased from Dubuque Times Herald that shows a photo of Frank with his team of contractor workers, submitted by his grandaughter. Name available if you write me)
Hattie May Skemp
Birth: 1878-- Dubuque, Of Dubuque, IA
Death: not shown
Spouse: Charles Hewitt Agard
Ivy Laura Skemp (my grandmother, mother of my father)
Birth: 1886-- Dubuque, Of Dubuque, IA
Death: about 1965 in Dubuque
Spouse: Joseph Henry Williams, born WILHELM, in Koblenz, Germany
1882 (I have his father and mother and more info)
Jessie Eugenia Skemp
Birth: 1881-- Dubuque, Of Dubuque, IA
Death:
Spouse: Alfred R Staufenbeil (Owned funeral home and was funeral director)
Nellie Louise Skemp
Birth: 1897-- Dubuque, Of Dubuque, IA
Death:
Spouse: Robert R Moore (moved my Mother says to Arkansas, had an orchard in AR)
(and also shown is a listing on Ancestry.com that is perhaps another family member as follows:
Cora P Stedman
Birth: 1878-- Stephenson, Freeport, IL
Death:
Spouse: Charles Paul Skemp
Harriet Mae Skemp (called Hattie) and Charles Agard are the parents of Sylvester Alvin and Marvel and possibly another child not remembered by my mother, so he may have died young, a boy called John Edwin. Marvel married Clayton O'Dell and had children (I can provide names), Sylvester, called Pep, finally married but never had children. For a time,he lived in Illinois, but most of his life he lived with his mother, my Aunt Hattie.
My mother thinks that a ballfield she remembers, called "Cain Field" (??) was named for the Cain famly.
If any of this information is of the same line as your research, please let me know. I am still trying to find names of Charles W. Skemp's and Laura's parents, etc.
My mother recalls a woman named Bernice and Sylvester "PeP" took my Mother to her home near Dubuque. Mother says my Aunt Catherine (sister to Arthur Joseph Williams, my father, may remember Bernice, who is a relative. So I've got to try to contact her.
