I have found Ephriam Cain in the Russell Co., KY census three times, 1840, 1850 and 1860.
The 1850 census lists Ephriam in the Second District but I don't know a more precise location from that other than it reading that this was dwelling and family # 312. The census is dated 04 SEP 1850 reads as follows:
Ephriam Cain, 47, M, Farmer, Value of estate $500, Place of birth Tenn.
Rebecca Cain, 43, F, Place of birth Tenn., Cannot read or write.
William R. Cain, 20, M, Farmer, Place of birth KY.
Albert H. Cain, 18, M, Place of birth KY., Attended school within the year.
Ephriam Cain, 16, M, Farmer, Place of birth KY., Attended school within the year.
Nancy J. Cain, 14, F, Place of birth KY, Attended school within the year.
Smith Cain, 13, M, Place of birth KY, Attended school within the year.
Marel J. Cain, 10, M, Place of birth KY, Attended school within the year.
Caroline Cain, 7, F, Place of birth KY.
Margaret Cain, 5, F, Place of birth KY.
Rebecca McDaniel, 95, F, Place of birth SC, cannot read or write.
John Anderson, 70, M, School Teacher, Place of birth VA.
Maiden name of Ephriam's wife Rebecca is McDaniel and their marriage date is 06 MAR 1828 per CLDS website. I have yet to confirm this myself. I assume thet the Rebecca McDaniel living with the Cains at this time is Rebecca (McDaniel) Cain's grandmother based on her age. I have yet to tie John Anderson in as a family member.
The 1840 Russell Co., KY census lists two male children ages 10-15 yrs. This would mean that there is an older male sibling to William as William would have been 10 yrs. of age in the 1840.
In the 1860 census this family was listed in the Russell Co., KY census under "Jamestown P.O.". They are dwelling and family # 243. The census is dated 18 JUN 1860 and it reads as follows:
Ephriam Cain, 56, M, Farmer, real estate $1000, personal estate $700, Place of birth Tenn.
Rebecca Cain, 52, F, Place of birth KY.
Merrell Cain, 20, M, Place of birth KY.
Caroline Cain, 17, F, Place of birth KY., Attended school within the year.
Margaret Cain, 15, F, Place of birth KY., Attended school within the year.
Claria Ann C. Cain, 12, F, Place of birth KY., Attended school within the year.
William Cain, 84, M, place of birth Tenn., listed as "Insane"
This William Cain is father of Ephriam. "Insane" back then was probably senile or something in my guessing.
William Cain is listed in the 1850 census of Russell Co., KY, Second District, dwelling and family # 318. He is listed as 76, M, Farmer, Birthplace of VA. His wife is named Margaret, she is age 73, F, birthplace of NC. Neither could read or write.
I have found three William Cain's in Kentucky census records prior to 1850 but the information does not match up very well so I am unsure which is correct.
Based on the ages of Ephriam and Rebecca from the 1840-1850 census, both of their birthdates would fall between the months of June and September.
I believe these Cain's lived in the eastern end of Russell Co. around the Casey and Pulaski Co. lines. Cain's Store is located in western Pulaski Co. just before Casey Co line.
http://ukcc.uky.edu/%7Emaps/pulaski.gif
Caroline Cain married Jacob W. Brown and they lived in the area of Hammond's Store which is in the little point that sticks up between Casey and Pulaski counties in eastern Russell Co. http://ukcc.uky.edu/%7Emaps/russell.gif
I have no further information on the Cains with the exception of Caroline of whom I am a descendant. I am planning a week in Kentucky in April to spend entirely on family research and exploring "the motherland". Several generations of my family are buried in the Caintown Cemetery which I will be visiting.
I hope this information is helpful to you.

I believe I am also related to this cain family.
Smith W.b4-17-1822 (brother to Ephraim) was my GGGG Grandfather. He married Emily Ann Nelson. I know his father was William, but have no other info on his parents. If you have any info on his parents, (mother' name or dates and places of birth for either) that you would like to share, it would help my research greatly.
Thank You
PS I have been talking with another descendent of Ephraim's, if you would like her information let me know.

My first Cain is Caroline Cain who was married to Jacob W. Brown in 1860; Russell Co., KY. Caroline is daughter of Ephriam Cain and Rebecca McDaniel, and granddaughter of William Cain. I lack much information concerning the Cain's in my family as I have yet to spend much time searching on that particular line.
Smith Cain, for whom "Caintown" or Cain's Store is named, is brother of Caroline Cain. Many of my relatives, covering five generations, lived and/or died in the area of Cain's Store dating from my father who was born there to my great-great-great grandparents who died there.
I am unsure how long the store was in operation or whether a photo even exists, but I figure this is as good a place as any to begin searching for one. I will contact the Pulaski Co. Historical Society to see if they have one but hoped someone could send one via e-mail.

Dee,
I need to ask your judgment in a look-up.
I am looking for evidence of a marriage (probate, marriage bond, genealogy,
other)
between:
Susannah _______??? born about 1775 in NC
and ________ CAIN born ??? died bef 1850 in Bladen county.
such marriage would have been between 1789-1801.
Other info I obviously would welcome would be the given name of any Bladen
county CAIN male who fathered a William Cain born abt 1801.
Please forgive this outrageous request. I will understand if the info is too
vague for you to proceed. Just let me know. Any advice appreciated.
I believe ______ & Susannah (????) CAIN were parents of William Cain born
Bladen county between 1790-1800 and died in early 1850; wife Catherine ______
born 1801.

Al Rose

It may be the same John Cain. I have nothing to verify it. My Cain's were in Morgan County WV in 1850. One of the sons had stated on a census that his father was born in Pa. What other information do you have about John? His children were James and Samuel. Could have had more but can't prove anything at this time. His wife and/or mother of these children was Nancy or Ann, last name unknown. She was born abt 1796.

The John Cain that is in my line was the son of James Cain and I believe they came from Monongalia Co WV to Greene Co and then to Marshall/Wetzel. There is a John Cain buried in Wetzel. I have other information on this Cain family from Monongalia. Richard Cain (1747-1812) father of my James Cain had another son John born around 1774 in PA. Could that be him? This family is very complicated. Jack

Your post interests me because my grandmother's family are Cain's and I'm married to a Bynum.
I'm wondering if Byram is another spelling of Bynum which originally started out and Bhingham .
It's interesting to see that the Bingham's, Byram's and Bynums found the Cain's appealing as mates in the 18th century and in the last century.

Note: Is this Margaret Swisher actually a Mary Margaret Swisher?
Absolom, age 19, in the 1850 Census, makes him born 1831, it makes me wonder
if his mother Mary was a widow of A. S. Swisher, the father of a Absolom S.
Swisher, (born 1831). Then, did this Mary (Margaret) Swisher remarried to
John R. Cain in 1835? On the Marriage license of a Absolom S. Swisher, in
Brown County Illinois, he lists his parents as A. S. Swisher and Mary
(Unknown). Is it coincidence that these to Absolom's were born in 1831, one
being a Kain and the other a Swisher, or, is it possible that Mary was a
widow of A. S. Swisher in 1835, when her son Absolom was 4, and when she
remarried John R. Cain April 13, 1835?
First, is there anyone on the list that is a descendant of a Absolom
Kain/Cain? Does anyone have any information on this Absalom Kain/Cain born
1831?
Anyone have any opinions?
