Juanita: Do you have all of Chapter IV (Cain-Robertson Families)
of the book William Cross and His Descendants?
It gives quite a history of the Cain family that emigrated to Howard County, MO. and Adair County. I hope you find the information you need in the William Cross book. I was only interested in learning about my great great grandmother, Martha Wells Kimbrough Conner who was the second wife of Washington Conner. Washington's first wife was Celia Cain b. Aug. 27, 1808.
I've learned about a Sue Gentry, elderly lady, who is in the Indep.Pioneers Chapter of the DAR with me. I'm anxious to tell her about all the Gentrys that are in the Cross book. I think she may be related to some of them.
Anyway, good luck on your search. Merry Christmas 2001

THERE IS A LOT THAT WE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE CAIN FAMILY. WE HAVE MANY WILLIAM CAIN NAMES AS EVERYONE SEEMED TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE. MANY DO NOT HAVE A MIDDLE NAME KNOWN. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE MAY RECOGNIZE THE FAMILY FROM YOUR QUERY AND HELP. WILL KEEP AN EYE OPEN FOR THE DATE TO SEE IF ANYTHING FALLS IN PLACE. A LOOSE END LIKE THIS CAN TAKE A LONG TIME TO FIGURE OUT. KEEP TRYING. IT IS WORTH IT.

WE HAVE A PART OF A COPY OF THE JOHN CAIN AND JAMES CAIN FAMILIES FROM THE BOOK YOU HAVE MENTIONED. JAMES WAS OUR ANCESTOR, BORN 1799, TO JOHN CAIN AND RUTH BLYTHE CAIN. THE BOOK GIVES THE DATE OF 1803 FOR BIRTH OF THOMAS CAIN, WHO DIED IN 1804. THE DATES OF BIRTH OF CELIA AND WINIFRED ARE GIVEN AS 1805 AND 1808. IF THESE DATES OF BIRTH ARE CORRECT, THEN, THESE CHILDREN AND PERHAPS OTHERS, ARE THE CHILDREN OF RUTH BLYTHE CAIN INSTEAD OF ONEY GENTRY MARTIN BLYTHE CAIN. THERE WERE OTHER CAIN NAMES IN THAT AREA OF MADISON AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES AT THAT TIME, WHO MIGHT ALSO HAVE BEEN SIBLINGS OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED. JUST TRYING TO HELP ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR THEIR ANCESTORS. WE DO NOT HAVE THE DATE OF DEATH OF RUTH BLYTHE CAIN. THERE SEEMED TO BE JAMES CAIN FAMILY NAMES BEFORE OURS WENT DOWN THERE. SEVERAL TRYING TO FIT THE PUZZLE TOGETHER. WHEN CAN DOCUMENT SOMETHING, IT MAY HELP OTHERS. WHEN THE ROBINSON BOOK WAS WRITTEN, THEY MOST LIKELY DID NOT HAVE DATE OF !
MARRIAGE, AND ONEY WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE WHO FINISHED RAISING THESE CHILDREN. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN AUNT, AS RUTH BLYTHE AND THE HUSBAND OF ONEY WERE MOST LIKELY RELATED AND MAYBE BROTHER AND SISTER.

Celia Cain; I am having great difficulty tracking my GGF William Gentry Cain, B.1866[ in Va, W.Va.or Mo.]. The names Oney Cain and Celia Cain have often been suggested to me as his ancestors...Can you expand on the names in the Cain Section of your book? Do you find a Cain/Gentry marriage early to mid 1800's? Thanks.

Juanita: I discovered your message by accident and discovered you were inquiring about the Cain family. My great great grandmother, Martha Wells Jones Kimbrough's second husband was married to a Washington Conner of Adair County. His first wife was Celia Cain. I have the book Wm Cross of Botetount County VA by a Mr. Cross which has a section on the Cain family....also the Conners. You can get the book at the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City on micro-film. I purchased a reproduction of the book from a book co on the internet since it has data on my relatives. I found all those families mentioned fascinating. Good look on your research.

Hello Bruce,
Harry, Paul, and Pearl Cain were all brothers of my Grandfather Ira Cain (1906-1980.) As a young child I believe I even meet your Grandfather at Ira's funeral. I too am interested in digging a little deeper into the family history. My father (Dennis Cain) has some photo's of our Grandfathers and their parents taken sometime in the early 1900's. I believe the only brother to serve in the WWI was Roy. He and Ira were the only two to stay in the United States.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Todd

Hello Mary,
I'd be so interested in your Georgia and SC connection to the Cain family, especially the SC Cain's. My ggg grandfather Isaac Cain was born ca 1796 in SC, but I've never been able to trace him or
learn his parents' names. I'm excited and hope to hear from you real soon.
Best ever,

I'm looking for a Mary Cain who married a Joseph Gibbs, probably from Florence/Marion Co. Both were born about 1800 and had a daughter Henrietta Gibbs in 1837 who married a widower Sam J. Steele. They had a child named Lonnie Steele.
This is my maternal side -- a cousin line. The Gibbs line re-connects with Carter in Darlington Co. I have a more direct Georgia and SC connection to the Cain family on my paternal side.
Any news?
