Does anyone know how to contact Charles Raymond CAIN? I have seen some notes
from him on different boards. We share a great grandfather, John Howard
CAIN, so I would love to share notes with him. Thanks Zou Feagin

I am not linked yet, but I am working on the family of Dennis Cain and Tirzah Jacobs. I found them in the 1860 Jefferson County, Indiana Census (Saluda Twp). It shows that they are living with a daughter Mary who is married to John Horner. Dennis at 74 y/o and Tirzah at 66 y/o. It also shows that Ruth Jacobs (60y/o) also lives with them possibly Tirzah's sister. I have a g g grandmother named after Tirzah, her story is complicated and I'm trying to find her parents. In this story (family bible) a Nancy Baker and a g grandmother Kane(mispelled) are mentioned in the history of Tirzah E Horner (maiden name) (my g g grandmother). If you or any one has more info on these families I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't have any dates beyond my grandmother, a daughter of Samuel and Sarah Cain. My grandmother, Roma Clare, was born in July 1903. To my knowledge, she had the following siblings: Ida, Nora, and Clyde. Roma married Thomas Ely Carter. They had one child: Ruth Cathryn who married James Hill Cline, my parents. We lived in Raleigh County, WV.
Samuel and Sarah Cain were farmers in Putnam County, WV, possibly near Scott Depot. My mother had a cousin, Eddie Cain, but I don't know who his father was, possibly Clyde.
Because of the paucity of information I have on the Cains (and the Carters, as well), I've put out help queries. If you have further information, please e-mail me at relsocfriends(a)cs.com.
Now, I've had better luck with the Cline and Cook side of my family. If anyone you know wants information on those surnames (Raleigh County and Wyoming County connections), please have them e-mail me.
Best of luck on your search. I've found that sharing is rewarding, so that's why I thank you for responding.

Trying to trace lineage for Samuel Cain. He married Sarah (maiden name unk.) and farmed in Putnam County, WV. They had children: Ida, Nora, Clyde, and Roma Clare. There may have been more.
Roma Clare married Thomas Ely Carter. Their daughter, Ruth Cathryn, was my mother.
Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to know the ancestry for Samuel Cain: parents' names, birthplaces, birthdates, siblings' names, etc.
I don't have anything on Sarah, Samuel's wife. Help.
Thanks.

Connie,
I see in your post that you have a Cain in a Hogan line. Is your Hogan
line from Minnesota? I seem to remember a May Cain in my Hogan
genealogy, but at the moment can't find it. I will have to search more.

Hi Joyce. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I wish I could spend more time researching. I no sooner find a lead than I have to attend to other things and have to wait to grab a few minutes here and there.
Anyway, I think that Martin Cain and Terrence Cain were brothers. I don't know for sure yet, as I don't have any info about siblings or parents for Terrence. He is the father of Julia, my ggrandmother.
Joe Bott tells me that Terrence Cain was born in 1833 in Ireland. The Cain family lived in Northumberland County, PA - Mt. Carmel and Centralia. So, place and time are right. None of the descendants you have have shown up in my research yet, but I am so sure that there is common link in ancestry. My Cains are buried in St. Ignatius cemetery in Centralia. The Cains descended from Terrence married into Hinchey, Smolke, Hogan, Quinn, and Sullivan lines.
Hoping something rings a bell, or you have more info on Martin's siblings and/or parents. Crossing my fingers...
Connie
