Hi, I am related to your family through my 2nd Great grandfather, Alfred Godfroi
Caiillouette who lived in Beaverville, Illinois. He was my grandmother, Macel
Caillouette's grandfather.
She once told me a story many years ago that had been written in a genealogy books her
mother wrote about Alfred [who they called Godfrey] going to visit a brother in New
Orleans at the outbreak of the war and he was told to either join the confederacy and
fight or spend the war in jail in New Orleans. So said he fought for the south even though
his brothers; Hilaire, Olivier, Thomas and Benjamin Caillouette all fought for the north.
I have my doubts about this story.
I cannot find a brother who would have lived in New Orleans and I find no war record about
Albert for either the north or south. I thought maybe he was confused and it was an uncle
he visited, but I can find no uncles in New Orleans either.
Have you ever heard a story like this on your family's side?
