"A Conference for the Nation's Genealogists"
September 6-9, 2000
Facts of Interest
* The Federation of Genealogical Societies is proud to announce
an exciting national conference to be held 6-9 September 2000
in one of the greatest genealogical centers of the world --
Salt Lake City! This conference, co-sponsored by the Utah
Genealogical Association, presents an extraordinary
smorgasbord of over 180 lectures in an incredible array of
topics to fit every attendee's interests.
* Classes are offered for both the beginner and the experienced
researcher.
* This conference will feature 100 national and international
speakers who are top genealogical professionals in research
and education.
* This FGS/UGA 2000 Conference will include over 150
booksellers, exhibitors, publishers, and society groups, with
their latest products and services. Several vendors will
include demonstrations of new LDS and commercial software
products. Exhibit area is open to the public.
* This conference provides a special opportunity for attendees
to do their own research before and after classes at the
Family History Library, located less than one block from the
conference site at the Salt Palace Convention Center. As an
added bonus to this year's conference, the Family History
Library will be open extended hours during the conference to
allow greater research time for conference attendees (hours
listed in conference program).

for various genealogical organizations, including family

various societies throughout the conference week or the FGS
banquet on Friday night. Prices noted in the conference
brochure.
* Early registration for the full conference (postmarked by
July 25) is $121. Registration after that date is $151.
Single day registration is also available.
* A national family history conference of this size has not been
held in Salt Lake City since 1990!!
Keynote Speakers at the FGS/UGA Conference
L. Reynolds Cahoon, Assistant Archivist for Human Resources
and Information Services at the National Archives, Washington,
D.C., will be the speaker at the FGS banquet on Friday
evening, September 8. His topic: "The Perils for Posterity"
or "Electronic Records: Will Their Promise or Their Problems
Prevail?"
Richard E. Turley, Jr. is managing director of the Family
History Department and the Church Historical Department of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is also a
trustee and president of the Genealogical Society of Utah. He
will present the keynote address at the Thursday morning
general session, entitled "The Family History Library: Its
Past, Present, and Future in Identifying and Linking the World
Family.
