You have a whole lot of interesting things in your family that correspond to the other
Caho lines. I am not sure about my own family because it seems different that the other 3
lines. Here is where I see similarities-
Religion- Catholic Ran in the Virginia/Maryland and Missouri Caho's
Names- The family names you are showing here are common as follows-
Charles- Charles A Caho in the Virginia Clan
Henry- Henry is a very common name in the Missouri Clan and I am hoping that Henry is the
name of one of the 4 brothers who came out here from the Virginia clan. In the Missouri
clan Henry E. Caho is the earliest known relative. He was born in 1843. He married Mary
Christine McCauley
Robert is common name in my family line, the Virginia line but not Missouri
I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE CEMETARY you speak of and this is the first time I have seen
someone say that the name was originally Caho and the e was added. I need to find
cemetaries in the Marion Cty, Washington and Shelby Cty that would have burials prior to
1870 and they may have the missing clues.
What my goal has been is to link all the Caho/e families together in VA, MO, IL and now KY
and I think I am very close to doing it. This is the person who I believe holds the answer
for all of us "Caho, Henry 1728-1850 KY NC TN VA WV Marriage CD 229" I am
hoping it is the right Henry. This is something I picked up and I am assuming that they
are putting him in an estimated range or something, otherwise the guy lived to be 122
years old LOL! What sticks out to me is that he would be in the date range of the FOUR
BROTHERS who came from Ireland and made their way from the Maryland area. This Henry also
died in the date area that somehow caused ALL OF THE CAHO CLANS I AM WORKING ON to lose
track of the lineage. The Missouri Caho's first relative was born in 1843, The
Virginia/Maryland starts in 1852. The ILLINOIS CLAN starts somewhere in this same area
although we do not have a birth date for John Caho. I think you are probably going to find
the same thing in your line.
It sounds like an entire family may have been wiped out with sickness during this time and
may be the reason why they cannot be located. I know that on my side, the courthouse
burned down that may have had any information. That leaves searching death records in old
courthouses in your area and graveyards, I guess.
Once you have your dates and hopefully some sort of pedigree on your family, it will be
easier to compare them to what I have here. I did notice that while my Aunt was doing
research she made notes of Caho/e's in different records as follows

I only wish I had the rest of my research unpacked I am going from memory.
But I did go to Holy Cross Cemetary last September 2005. I know that Gonza
was buried as a Ballard, his wife's maiden name. And yes Hillary is there
but as a Cambron. And this should also be said that almost all census that
he was in it was as a Cambron. As a matter of fact the first one shows Gonza
or Gonzal Cahoe with the Cambrons'. I only wish I understood why he flip
flopped his last name so much and who was he truly. I have a really hard
time accepting Hillary as the birth father. However I am wondering if Miss
McPherson is birth mother and for some reason just remarried, to Hillary
Cambron. In later census it shows Hillary other sons as Cambrons as well,
not Caho. I can not remember for the life of me right now Gonza's wives
names. But I do know that Joseph was married to Ida Green. I don't recall
the number of children, but there were quite a few. Now Joseph is Gonza's
son. One of Joseph's sons was Charles Henry Cahoe and he was married to
Catherine Lee Newton. There marriage ended and he later married a Doris I
believe. Now Charles Henry Cahoe had 4 sons total, Charles Robert Cahoe
10-37, Francis Albertis Cahoe 7-39, then twins James Ronald Cahoe and Joseph
Donald Cahoe 7-40 . James passed 1 month after birth. Francis is my father.
So as you see I haven't made it far, but I am persistent. I just wished I
understood the Hillary Cambron, then Cahoe then finally Cambron. Any
suggestions? And Holy Cross Cemetary is in a beautiful area by the way and
has all the Cahoe's, Caho, up to Gonza that is. The church has been there
since 1894 if memory serves me correctly. Once I get things unpacked I will
scan the photos of the markers and would love to share them. Who knows maybe
I have a photo of someone's family member, wouldn't that be great. And if
anyone wants to contact me directly you may at
creekmom01@peoplepc.com<mailto:creekmom01@peoplepc.com> .
Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you again

Looks like we are searching in the same area. If I remember right,
Washington County also holds caho/cahoes and you can draw a straight line
north through Washington and Marion counties, right to where I am looking in
Shelby County. I noticed that on the info I sent you earler it had a Hillory
Caho too. What kind of name is Gonza? That's unusual too

Thank you so much. It has opened a number of possibilities. Now one
thing I
do know is that my family is from Marion County Kentucky. That is
where
Gonza first showed up. It was the 1850 census and it stated he lived
with
Hillary Cambron and his wife. But here is another thing, 10 years
later
it
stated that he lived with Hillary Caho. Then another 10 years later
and
from
there on out it went back to Hillary Cambron. I truly believe it
was a
clerical error on behalf of the census worker. And yes Gonza did spell
it
as Caho it was later when they added the "e". Who knows
maybe we can one
day
piece this all together. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you so
much
again for your time.

in
Henderson KY and I can't seem to find anything further either.
I keep in
contact regularly with other bands of Caho's and one Cahoe, not related,
trying to piece it all together. I am searching my computer trying to
find
what I think is the answer or connection to all of this. I'm
sorry to
say
that I seem to be either hot or cold on genealogy and it is very
frustrating
because it's hard to get back to where you were when you start
again. I
have
my family and others, in GED Family History files if that will help
you
also. It's very exciting to come in contact with you because I think our
name may actually be Cahoe and was changed or the e dropped somewhere.
> I

thing.
Me and my good intentions....This was supposed to go on a website.
Before
you read this, let me sum up what is interesting about what you
have
indicated in your family line-
>
1. SICKNESS- Either Yellow Fever or Typhoid struck in the earliest
ancestor I have also- John Caho and Jane Powers. It caused to family to
move
in many directions and is one reason why my Great Grandfather came
to
Illinois. What is ODD on our end is that my Great Grandfather WOULD
NEVER
SPEAK about his own family. He was raised by an aunt possibly and
used
as
labor up until 16. This sickness caused his 2 sisters to.....
>
2. MOVING- another family at age a late age (around 19. That gave me
curious) I don't have all my family records here but I believe that the
family name they went with was BASKETT. I decided to track that family
thinking they must have been relatives or friends and it lead me upriver
of
Henderson, KY to the area directly across from Louisville KY. If I
remember
right, it was Shelby CTY in particular. In this county and around
including
the Louisville area.......
>
3. YOUR NAME SPELLING.....you will find the name CAHO and CAHOE in the
same areas. In fact I was recently in contact with a gentleman in
Louisville with the last name of CAHOE and he was searching as well
because
his family line ended on him in this time frame. Now, if you look
at my
information below, you'll find the info about current bands of Caho's
and
you will also find that THE BROTHER THAT I THINK CAME WEST AND
STARTED
ALL
OF THIS HAS THE COMMON NAME IN YOUR LINE OF HENRY. HENRY is not in
my
family
BUT IS A VERY COMMON NAME IN THE CAHO FAMILY IN THE MISSOURI AREA.
>
That's where it ends right now. It appears to me that the brother I
feel
who came out here from the Maryland Area- HENRY CAHO- had children
and
families in the Louisville, Shelby Cty areas and this is most likely
where
MY FAMILY ROOTS CAME FROM AS WELL AS THE MISSOURI CAHO's. You
mention
sickness in your line as well and it I am sure it probably caused
changes in
last names, who they went with, etc. Anyway- I think the ANSWER TO
CONNECTING THE CAHO's IN MARYLAND, MISSOURI and ILLINOIS lie in the
Shelby
Cty and Louisville area and probably yours does too. Everyone
mispronounces
my name and when you put an E on the end, there is no mistaking how
it
should be pronounced. It seems to be that it should be that way anyway.
>
In any event, I'll let you digest this. I can put you in contact with
others if you need to. I will also send you another email with the Caho
genealogy in Missouri where you can see the Henry name connection.
Please
let me know how I can be of any help and if any of this may make
sense
to
you.

> The Quest for CAHO/Cahoe

Years of research have been spent by many CAHO relatives,
trying
to unlock the secret of their ancestors past. Three separate
"clans"
exist
in Illinois, Missouri and Maryland. Each has been stopped in
either
connecting the clans or even furthering their own family. In my own
case,
our family stopped at John & Jane Powers in the 1860's in
Henderson
Kentucky.
>
The trail involves many variations of the name such as:
>
CAHO CAHOE KAHO KAHOE CAHILL KAO CAO Etc.
> As of April 2005 I feel that I have identified the
original 4
brother's
names that came here in the 1700's. Up until now, only one of
the
brother's
names was actually known. That is why the other three branches
continually
hit a dead end. It will be most beneficial if a person trying to
solve
this,
would begin forward from this assumption and trace outward from
there in
hopes of connecting them to your own families.
>
The assumption is based upon a letter provided by John Fitchett, that
was
written in 1893 by a relative and contained information regarding 4
Caho
brothers family history. Start at the link on the left that has a copy
of
this and also explains how I came about determining the other
brothers
names.
>
In this letter, the only family known is from one brother's marriage-
John
Caho and Lydia Bryson. They settled in the Maryland area and you
will
find
good histories regarding this family. The time period of this would
be
mid
1700's. Here is what I feel are all of the other brothers names
who came
together to settle here either from Ireland or Scotland-

Bryson settled in the Virginia/Maryland area

2. Ignatius Caho stayed in the same area

also have a link to maps of the particular counties where the
families
exist today or in the past. This particular map was created in the
1860's. I
will add others when possible.

am hoping that as you search for your own roots using this
