Message Board Post:
I am searching for any other descendants or family members of Matthew KILEY and Mary
CAHILL. They had a daughter, Ellen, born about December 1836 in County Cork, Ireland. She
listed her parents' names and county of birth on her marriage record to John THORNTON
of County Kerry, Ireland; they were married in Malden, Middlesex Co., MA, USA on 10 Aug
1866. I am hoping to find a church parish to do further research on microfilm.
I have searched the Griffith's Original Valuation online (
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php ) but did not find a Matthew Kiley in Cork. So
he may have died or emigrated by 1850s. Ellen says she emigrated in 1854.
The only parishes in Cork that have both a Cahill and a Kiley family living there are as
follows (from Griffiths):
[Surname, First name, Townland(s), Civil Parish, County]
Kiley Michael Longstone Whitechurch Cork
Cahill John Slievedotia Whitechurch Cork
Kiley Timothy Kilquane Bridgetown Cork
Kiley Timothy Grange Bridgetown Cork
Cahill John Grange Bridgetown Cork
Kiley John Inchamay, North Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Ellen Lyre Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Denis Curraghrour, East Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Margaret Kilmacurrane Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Margaret Shronebeha Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Peter Kilmacurrane Clonmeen Cork
Cahill Charles Gortmore Clonmeen Cork
If anyone can eliminate some of these lines, that would be helpful, too.
I noticed on this board there was a Dennis Cahill who married a Mary Kiley. I know the
odds are long, but could they have been siblings or cousins?
Thank you,
Susan
