William Barr (my GGGrandfather) was born in June of 1843 in OH according to
census records, family, and death records. He is listed as serving in the
military on the census. I've found what I believe to be his Civil War
Records and his parents and other family of Fairfield Co., OH but here is
the mystery. One of the family records at the Fairfield Co. Genealogical
Society state that William Barr (husband of 1st Sarah Hazlett (dau. of
,later Martha Cahill, and I believe lastly Emma O'Harra (Harris)) supposedly
(according to another family history file) died in Berrien Co., MI Oct.
28th, 1871 where he had fathered two children with wife Martha Cahill Barr,
i.e., George and Nora. William and wife Martha (Cahill) were enumerated in
the Berrien Co., MI census in 1870. He is not in the Berrien Co., MI census
again in 1880 but Martha is listed and remarried to a Deeter, dau. Nora
supposedly deceased, and George going by the name of Deeter??? I believe
I've found William back in Franklin Co., OH in the 1880 census with another
wife. Anyway, I have a marriage certificate for a Wm. Barr in 1878 where he
married Emma Harris a 19 yr. old girl and they had a 5 year old girl living
with them named Ola in that 1880 Franklin Co., OH census. This William Barr
(My GGGrandfather) gives his middle initial as C. and claims to have been
born in Fairfield Co., OH on the exact date and in the same township as the
Wm. C. Barr that supposedly died in Berrien. My GGGrandfather Wm. practiced
the occupation of "teamster" just as the Wm. that married Sarah and Martha
did and as he learned and served as in the Civil War records. I can't seem
to find a death certificate or grave site for Wm. in Berrien Co. and would
certainly like to prove or disprove that he died there. The individual
presenting the "death" info provided no source material that I could check
and I've been hunting for this for 18 yrs. without luck. I believe my
GGGrandfather was the same Wm. that Martha claimed died. I can't understand
how/why this would happen but realize there could be a whole lot of
different reasons. My Grandfather went on to father many more children and
remain married to Emma until 1930 when he died at the age of 87 yrs. of age.
If anyone has any information on the death of a Wm. Barr that died in
Berrien Co., MI or this family, please let me know. Exasperated.
