WILLIAM CAHILL
JULY 9, 1897
William Cahill, one of the oldest men in this community, passed away at the family home on
the north side of town on Tuesday (July 16) morning, after having been in a feeble
condition for many months.
Deceased was born in county Tippary, Ireland, in the year 1812 or 1813, being, as are many
of the older people of his nationality, not certain as to the date of birth. He came to
America in 1840, but returned to his native land in November, 1849, and in January, 1850,
he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Gorman and again came to America, locating in
Peoria county on a farm. The union was blessed with seven children, five daughters and two
sons, two daughters having preceded the father in death. Eighteen years ago the family
came to this vicinity and engaged in farming, moving to town about eight years ago, where
they have since resided. He leaves to mourn his departure the aged wife, three daughters
and two sons and many friends. The children are all single and living at home, with the
exception of Miss Maggie, who resides in Peoria, and a sister who is in a convent in St.
Louis.
The funeral services were held from the SS. Peter and Paul's church on Thursday
morning and the remains laid to rest in St. Patrick's cemetery.
