Maureen,
This isn't my direct line. Though I believe it to be a cousin of my line. (John Cahill
who married Dianah Garner in Henry County, VA 1789).
I haven't looked into it for a while but I found. Roger Cahill from St. Mary's
County Maryland who married. Rebecca Guilbert before 1769. Roger was Rebeccas's
2n'd husband. He owned the estate of James Mills in 1754 in SMC Maryland. Then he
was in Charles County, MD according to the census from 1778-1783. Then he came to Culpeper
County, VA and bought 104 acres of land on the Rapahannock River by verbal order of Thomas
Cahill (this is a deed, and Thomas could be a son or brother.)
In 1793, Roger Cahill and Rebecca(last name unknown) sold some of their land in Culpeper,
VA. He was still on the Culpeper census in 1800. between 1800-1810 he moved to Mason
County, KY. He is on the 1810 census as being over 45yrs old.
I found a Peregrine Cahill who was either the son or brother of Roger Cahill. He was on
the 1780 SMC census and he was an overseer of a large plantation. I have him in SMC until
1810 but than have not been able to locate him. Maybe he died??? There is also a Nathaniel
Cahill in SMC who married Lydia Garner. It is my opinion that Roger is the father of
Peregrine and Nathaniel and either of your John Cahill or mine. Roger and Thomas may have
been brothers. In any case they all came from saintMary's Maryland to VA and went on
to KY. The oldest son of my John Cahill was also named Peregrine Cahill. It was customary
for the eldest son to be named after the father's father or eldest brother.
I seem to remember that I had found the names of John Cahill (who married Elenor Butt)
siblings. I did that research a few years ago and I can't seem to find it right now. I
will keep looking for you.
I live next to Culpeper County now so local research isn't that difficult.
Hope something helps!! If you find anything new, let me know.
Cathy
