Dear Patti: My grandfather, Arthur Edward CAHILL , 1st wife Anna Belle SETTLE,
migrated from Bergen Co., NJ>Chemung Co., NY, >Philadelphia Co., PA>Monroe Co.,
NY, (at least.) ~1934, he left the family to "find his fame and fortune," and
in
1946, he showed up in Atlantic Co., NJ, with a 2nd wife, Jane Boesch. I never
knew my grandfather; we were told he left the family and he was no good. I
thought he was dead, but later learned that he hadn't died until 1974. We now
know that he was a Vaudeville singer & dancer, singing waiter, but also a
painter, and specialized in "Gold Leaf." We don't know for sure where he
was
between 1934 and '46. Do we know when Wendell Eldredge CAHILL moved to Alaska?
I looked up Alaska, gold: "By 1900 Alaska had become a land of golden
opportunity as one gold discovery followed another and prospectors arrived by the
tens of thousands. Although the gold rush was over within a few years, many
people settled in Alaska.."

MOM>>There's a family connection to the gold mining in Alaska - Nome, Alaska
to
be exact. I remember my mother having a long gold chain with a clear, glass
pendant about two inches in diameter. Inside the glass were small gold
nuggets or coursely ground nuggets from "an uncles" gold mines in Alaska.
We also had a den in our house in West Somerville, MA that had a small kayak
(about three feet long) mounted on the wall. It was from Alaska and made
from seal skin.
If anyone thinks this could be a connection or has any info to help me out,
please reply.Thanks! Patti Lorette Phillips
