James Cahill, a pioneer of Stanley Country, passed away at the home of a daughter in
Grant's Pass, Oregon at the age of 96. He was born in Wakefield, Quebec, Canada on
March 25, 1841. He came to Stanley in 1880 and lived in a log shack near where the high
school now sits. Later he bought some land north of the city where the William Brown and
Carl Lehnert homes now are. They lived there until 1897 when they left for Aberdeen,
Washington where they have since resided.
Mr. Cahill is survived by his wife, age 92 and 8 children: Lucy (Mrs. Allan
McLeod--formerly Mrs. Philip Duffy) of Grant's Pass, Oregon; Mary (Mrs. Guy Rivers) of
Fairbanks, AK; Emma (Mrs. William Brown) of Stanley Country; Beatrice (Mrs. Jerome Wolfe),
John and Hames of Aberdeen, Washington; William of Elma, Washington; and Andy of this
city.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Emma Brown, 80, were Monday morning at St. Mary's
Church, Fr. Ralph Geissler officiating.
Mrs. Brown, longtime Stanley resident, died at Mrs. Halterman's Rest Home on May
2.
The former Miss Emma Cahill, born March 22, 1892 in Lowe, Quebec, Canada was 8 years
old when she came from Canada with her parents to Edson to live. She was an early
resident of this community.
She married WIlliam Brown in Cadott 62 years ago and lived in Stanley since.
Her husband and three sons perceded her in death.
She is survived by four sons: Robert, James, William, David of Stanley; 1 daughter
Mrs. Florence Gosegner of Loyal. Also by 3 brothers: William, John, James of Aberdeen,
Washington; 3 sisters Mrs. Guy Rivers, Mrs. Beatrice Wolfe of Fairbanks, AK and Mrs. Dave
McLeod of Deer Creek, Oregon.
Burial in the St. Mary's cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Brochtrup, Francis McDonald, Ed Smoczyk, Louis Labonte, Richard
Moore, and Mike Starget.
Out of town visitors included of Waukegan, IL: Mrs. Joe Camarato, Mrs. Ted Kaeding,
Mrs. Joe Parks, and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Brown. Of Pittsville: Mrs. Richard Brown.
