Message Board Post:
Hello,
I'm researching the family of William Cahill and Jane Doughterty Cahill, undertakers
in Phila. latter half of the 1800's. I think your Cahill family is compatible.
Here's what I know: So far as the 1860 Census I found William Cahill, Jane and
daughter Catherine listed in Philadelphia. William is an undertaker. Over the years, still
in census listings, their total children were: Catherine (Kate), John, Jane, Frank
(Francis), William Jr, Mary, Joseph, Thomas and Gertrude, all born in Phila. bet. 1859 -
1875. I'm not certain of William's parents, but Jane's father was Bernard
Dougherty, b. Ireland 1805. and lived with Jane in the 1880 Census.
Apparently William died relatively young, he's not listed in the 1880 Census, but Jane
is listed as far as the 1900 Census where she's living with daughter Catherine and
son-in-law Benjamin McCullough and their children. Jane died 1902.
I'm still looking for the parents of William Cahill and Jane Dougherty's mother.
Thanks,
Jan Mulligan
