I am searching for relatives of Robert Cahill born 1822
who wed Honora Hanrahan about 1861 Balleturin which
does not seem to exist any more. Many map sources
checked. Extensive search for this location has all
scrathing their head.
I learned that Honora Hanrahan had a sister Ellen who
married a Moriarity and setttled in Oakland, CA at a
later time. Both Honora's parents and Ellen's parents
match: Mary English and Dennis Hanrahan who lived
in Ballybunion, County Kerry, Ireland. The marriage
license validated parentage for both,
Cahills, several families, I discovered lived in Ballybunnion.
I have this information stored and now begin to pull it
out (Irish records available by computer) for preview.
I wonder, wonder, wonder if John is a sibling to Robert?
Let's keep in touch. Oh, a letter validated my Cahill line
is from Kerry.
Best of luck in your searching. Sharon Loveless
I, therefore, search for all Cahills in Ballybunion.
Re: New York Cahills:
Ellen I don't have anything specific as to
West Village NYC listings for Cahills.
Here is what I would do. If I were looking
for John or Sara Cahill married 1848+,
l. I'd visit or phone the free archives
except minimal fee for copy work.
2. I'd asked for the book(s) on County
History. The Kansas City Branch
has two. The green one lists divisions
within the counties and wards and years.
My target would be - "West Village"
and once I would have the ward number,
the search is extremely narrowed.
Ward(s) _______ in West Village and
either yourself if you go in person or
a volunteer at the archives will assist
with pulling the
right film. They will do lookups when
needed. I live where I can commute to the
KC archives in MO when my car gets
fixed. You may be near the Dallas, TX
archives.
3.Sound-a-like "Caho" is listed for census
page 177 N.Y. City lst ward west in the
CD 42, lst Edition, New York 1850 census
Screen 1308 of 11264. This misspelling
may have thrown you off if this is West
Village.
4. The head of household can be sometimes
a twosome, husband and wife if the family
is split at the bottom of one sheet to the
top line of the second sheet. Also the
wife's name only, of course, if the husband
is deceased. Sarahs are listed as 290 and
294 - not close enough to page 177, John's
page 1850 census.
5. One county book, red, tells wards and then
there is another book that shows political
divisions for the census years.
6. I'd be asking if farm census were available for
this area and a check of the book that lets
one know the state census records available.
The Federal Archives have excellent resources.
Hope I haven't lost you. you have excellent pieces
of info to work with. I'll see if I have anything
for 1870s Patrick married to Catherine K 1870+

Soundex (spellings sound alike) = C400.
Out of twelve archives in the US phone or stop by

1860 census for Missouri list two Lawrence Cahills
both St. Louis CO.page 282 6th Ward St Louis and
'' " '' page 1144 St. Ferdinand Town-
ship. Hopefully ages will match with yours and per-
haps seeing father/son two Lawrences. As Lawrence
Cahill, I, too find uncommonly a given name and yet
the page numbers show noncontiguius/touching land
as if an inheritance.? Best Wishes - Sharon

Help needed please.
I have been searching for my Cahill connections for a few years now, and have finally found new information. I am hoping by posting it here someone may have a connection to this family...
All along I have been looking for a Joseph Cahill born approx: 1863 in Ireland, but as it turns out, his name was actually Michael 'Joseph' Cahill and he was born at Arthur St, Garston - West Derby, Lancs on 6th Aug,1867. "Joseph" as he was known to our family, was my Grandfathers, father ( Frank Drea Cahill - b: Hertfordshire , 1907 ).
1871 Census: Woodger St, Garston, Lancs
Michael (Joseph) Cahill age 3 - lived with his parents,
Daniel Cahill age 33 born Ireland
Catherine Cahill age 37 born Ireland
Edward Cahill age 1 born Garston, West Derby
Eliza Drea age 24 born Ireland
plus 3 other's who were boarders
Eliza Drea was Catherine Cahill's (nee` Drea) sister.
Eliza died in 1871 age 24 in West Derby.
Catherine Drea married Daniel Cahill in West Derby in 1865.
Edward Cahill died in 1874 age 4 in West Derby.
Daniel Cahill died in 1880 age 42 in West Derby
1881 Census:Woodger St, Garston, Lancs
Michael (Joseph) Cahill age 13 lived with his mother
Catherine Cahill age 46
plus 4 boarders
1891 Census: - Liverpool
Michael (Joseph) Cahill age 23 lived with his Aunt
Mary Fox age 32 born Ireland
James Fox age 36 born Ireland
Thomas Fox age 9 born Wavertree, Lancs
James Fox married Mary Cahill in 1881 in West Derby.
1901 Census: 27 New Kent Rd, St Albans
Joseph Cahill ( as he is known as now) age 32 lived in St Albans, Hertfordshire with his wife
Emily Cahill age 26 born St Albans
Grace Alice Kate Cahill age 3 born St Albans
Joseph Cahill married Emily Ward in Edmonton, Middlesex in 1897.
Joseph was living at York Rd, Waltham Cross and Emily at 31 New Kent Rd, St Albans at the time of their marriage.
I am waiting on a marriage certificate for Daniel & Catherine, and am hoping that may lead me to where in Ireland they were born ? If not, I am still stuck !
Any help at all would be great as this part of my tree has been a dead end for too long already.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Jan

CAHILL, Anna, 401 Fifth street, is listed among the dead on The General Slocum, a steamship that burned in the East River in New York City on June 15, 1904.
I am not related to this family, just passing on this information, which comes from a website called "List of General Slocum victims" The link for the site is listed below.

Ellen,
Is your Sylvester the one who married into the WHITE family? I can't
remember if they were from new York or Massachesetts. The marriage was early 1800's I
think.
claudia
Does ANYONE know if Sylvester is a common first name for Cahill's in Ireland?
There have only been about 5 in the USA I have found in the 40 years of
research.....
Hello and thank you for offering this information.
I am looking for any information on:
SYLVESTER CAHILL b. 1815 in Kilkenny Ire.
brother - HUGH CAHILL b. ?
1/2 brother - MARTIN CAHILL b 1823 in Kilkenny
I know Sylvester was in NY City & had a Shoe business on Broadway as early
as 1849
Martin enlisted in the Army in 1846 and came to California to fight in the
Mexican War
I know nothing about Hugh except that he was a brother.
Sylvester ended up in New Jersey and was one of the founders of Cranford, NJ.
If any of this matches - please let me know.
