The question has been asked before about ones relation to Leonhart, and
this is my best advice. He thus far is the earliest Cagle, to arrive to
the Colonies. Each individual has to trace their ancestery back far
enough to see if they come from his line.
At the time of his departing Germany in 1732, there weren't that many
Kegel's. My personal belief is that all Cagle's, are from a line that
dates back to the origin of this surname.
In many cases the name was gradually changed to Cagle, but their are
many living today in the US & Germany who spell it Kegel.
There are records of Kegel's, arriving from Germany after 1732. This
list hasn't researched them because of no appearent connections. I know
of one such line that appeared in the 1870 Scott Co; Mo; census.
This was led by a Peter Cagle b. abt. 1816 in Switzerland, his wife Mary
b. abt. 1812 also in Switzerland. John Cagle, a son was born in Missouri
abt. 1854. In an enumeration close by is their son Peter Cagle Jr; b.
abt. 1843 in Switzerland. His wife Susannah Cagle b. abt. 1849 in
Missouri, and their young son Joseph Cagle b. abt. 1869 in Missouri.
I don't have any other data on them. However, it is my belief they
arrived in New Orleans La; in the late 1840's, from Switzerland.
This is just one small example, of one family, that may not have a
direct connection to our common ancestor.
So far nobody on this list has stated their connection to this Scott Co;
Mo; family. There has to be a continual lineage fo this family, who are
living today.
