David,
Thanks for the information. I am sure it will be helpful to new list
members.
For those of you who may not have seen it, I do have the burials in the
Cagle Cemetery in Coble, Hickman Co., TN on the net at:
http://www.angelfire.com/pa/civilwarcagle/CagleCemetery.htm
Also, I want to share some information so that anyone who might be able to
add to it can send it to me. For many years the burial place of Charles
Cagle and Elizabeth Curb Cagle (they are my and Earls gr, gr, gr
grandparents) has been a mystery and while we still do not know for sure
where they are buried, I have recently come across some very strong clues as
to where they are buried. By way of background, recently I had an
opportunity to communicate with some relatives from Hickman Co who descend
from Jessie Harden Cagle. Jessie was my grandfather's brother and the gr
grandson of Charles and Elizabeth. Known as Hard, Jessie who is buried in
the Cagle Cemetery, while he was alive, took the responsibility to mark all
graves in the Cemetery with a simple concrete cross with just numbers.
Three of Jessie's children who are still living have all said that he also
marked two graves in Cow Hollow that at the time were on the farm of Evelyn
Cagle Armstrong. (Evelyn was a daughter of Jessie and she lived on the
farm of her grandfather Thomas Cagle Sr. who in turn was the son of Charles
and Elizabeth ) Jessie told his children that these were the graves of his
gr. grandparents. The graves were under a large tree marked by two crosses
with just numbers on them. Short of a DNA test, at this point there is no
definitive proof, however, it makes sense to me that Thomas Cagle SR would
have buried them on his farm in Cow Hollow, especially since Cow Hollow was
where Charles originally settled. Combine that with the information from
the living children of Jessie and I think the circumstantial evidence
pointing to their burial place is pretty strong. Some relatives in Hickman
Co are going to talk with the property's current owners and see what they
might know about the graves. If anyone has anything they can add, please
send it along.
Thanks!
Tom Cagle
