Earl and all -
Several subscribers to Harkey-L(a)rootsweb.com had their DNA examined and
have used the results to establish/confirm family lines. They are
working on getting some German "cousins" to to the same. Only males care
the specific DNA marker required to establish genetic kinship. The test
costs $140-$150.

Sandra's mention of the Kerchner site brings another point of
interest
to mind. I have viewed Mr. Kerchner's work (which is
extensive)and
encourage all of you to go to his home page and search the various
segments of information he has provided, some good history regarding the
German immigrants. The aspect that I am interested in is the Genealogy
by DNA. If you go to Kerchner's home page and scroll down to the DNA
project indentified with the "NEW" logo, you will find a project he is
working on that is very interesting. Since our Leonhart came from the
Palatinate area I plan to contact Kerchner and present my heritage for
his evaluation for his project. If he declines I still plan to contact
Family Tree DNA (
www.familytreedna.com) for a kit for DNA testing. I
will let you know what comes of this. Also, I am putting together some
information on from sources I have on Henry Cagle (I agree some of the
lines of descent appear to be a little tangled). Earl L. Cagle, Sr.!

After reading countless messages concerning the names Leonard Kegel's
sons, I started searching to see if I could come up with something
that might help us. I found the following site that explains the
naming of the German and PA German children. The address is
www.kerchner.com/nickname.htm . After looking at the Americanized
versions of some of the names, go to the very bottom of the page and
click on German Naming Customs. I think that will explain why we
might have 2 Johns or Georges or whatever in this family. Hope it
helps someone.
