David, I will incorporate my notes following your own beginning with
Charles, George and Henry Jr. I will try to get to this
tomorrow to finish it. I will include the list members in my response in
case someone has something to add or perhaps a
correction.

Lee,
I am sending this to help you get my name back in your address
book.
Sometime when e-mail gets slow, you might send me what you have on
my
family. I could proof same and see that we agree on all the little
details.
Following is a list of all the original Cagles who came to Hardin
Co., TN.
Further below is my line.
Hardin County Tennessee Cagles
1. Charles Cagle, 1780's-?
The first Cagle of record in Hardin Co. TN was one Charles Cagle
who, along
with others, as shown in Record Book A, January Court of 1823, was
appointed
to lay out an maintain a road from Brown's Ferry on the Tennessee
River to
Able Oxford's place. The Ferry site was located just south of what
would
become the Shiloh Battlefield. Able Oxford's, today, is located in
McNairy
County. McNairy was originally part of Hardin as was Hardeman,
Fayette and
Shelby.
On September 23, 1834, George Cagle, brother of Charles (?), sold
100 acres
in Hardin Co. TN. Charles Cagle was witness to the transaction. In
1837
and 1838, Charles Cagle bought and sold 87 acres in McNairy Co.,
then
disappears form the record. I am at a loss as to what happened to
Charles
I notice you have Charles born 1780s, I have him born 1799.
These are my notes:
Charles was the first Cagle to come to Hardin Co., TN, ca 1822 who, along
with others, as shown in Record Book A, January Court of 1823, was
appointed to lay out and maintain a road from Brown's Ferry on the
Tennessee River to Able Oxford's place. The Ferry site was located just
south of what would become the Shiloh Battlefield. Able Oxford's, today,
is located in McNairy County. McNairy was originally part of Hardin as
was Hardeman, Fayette and Shelby.
His first wife, d. 1840s was the mother of sons, John T, b. 1821; Lloyd
H, b. 1823; James Riley, b. 1824; Jeremiah, b. 1828; George W, b. 1835;
and Silas, b. 1838. Charles then married Leannah Cagle, daughter of
Valentine Cagle, Jr, b. 1766 who also moved to the Winston Co., Alabama
area in the 1830s.
1820 Warren County, TN.
Cagle, Charles 20001 - 1 ( p.002)
1830 Warren County, TN
Cagle, Charles 202001 - 120001 (p.373)
In 1834, Charles Cagle is a witness to a deed transaction between George
Cagle and Jesse Smith in Hardin County. Charles never shows in a census
or Tax List for Hardin or McNairy Counties.
Charles is thought to have purchased 87 acres from Daniel W Martindale
for $800 on 4 April 1837, then resold the same land to Archibald C
Houston for #1,000 on 22 Jan 1838. This is the last record of Charles in
Tennessee.
1840 Walker Co, ALA.
Cagle, Charles 1122001 - 0100101 (p.300)
His location for the 1850 census was Hancock (Winston) Co. AL. His
daughters are believed to have been named Martha and Rhodie Cagle, and
his sons were as follows:
John b.ca.1821 1850 DeKalb
Co. AL.
Lloyd H., b.ca.1824 "
" "
James Riley b.ca.1826 1850 Winston, AL
Jeremiah b.ca.1829 1850 DeKalb Co. AL
George Washington b.ca.1835 1870 Pope , ILL.
Silas b.ca.1838 1860 Dunklin,
MO
Notes: a second-hand report indicates that John T, Loyd H. and Jeremiah,
along with their brothers Riley, b. 1820s and Silas, b. 1838 with sisters
Martha and Rhodie, were the children of Charles Cagle, who died in
Alabama. The Charles who seems to match their description most closely
would be Charles Cagle of 1840 Walker Co. AL. (now Winston Co.) who had
six sons and two daughters at home in 1840. The fact that Jeremiah and
Loyd H. later owned land in Winston Co. in 1855 and 1857 show that they
did have ties to Winston.

land purchases and sales to have them on record.

son of John Cagle, 1824-1898, of Lawrence Co., AL who was the son of
Valentine Cagle, Jr. b. 1786.
.
2. George Cagle ca 1780's-1840
George left Cabarrus Co., NC for Hardin County TN in the early
1820's. On
May 31, 1826, George Cagle entered 100 acres of land in Hardin
County. When
George sold this land in 1834, Charles Cagle, above, was witness to
the
transaction. George was married to Elizabeth Freeman and had a
large
family. Their children were:
John S. Cagle, b. ca 1827
Charles, b. ca 1830
Rhoda, b. 1830
Nancy C. b. 1834
Mary L. "Polly," b. 1838
Deborah Tabitha, b. 1840
George and his family moved to New Madrid Co., MO in 1838 where
George was
killed by a falling tree in 1840. His wife and children moved back
to
in County.
These are my notes for George:
George moved from Cabarrus Co., NC to Hardin County TN between 1823 and
1825 where his brother, Charles had located earlier. On 31 May 1826,
George entered 100 acres of land in Hardin County. When George sold this
land in 1834 to Jesse Smith in Hardin County. His brother, Charles was a
witness to the transaction.
Though, brother Charles is thought to be the first Cagle in Hardin
County, he was never been found there on a US Federal Census, nor an
existing Tax List.
George and family moved from Hardin Co., TN to New Madrid County,
Missouri in 1838. George was killed by a falling tree while clearing
land ca 1839. Elizabeth and her children were enumerated in the 1840
census of New Madrid County, however, moved back to Hardin County,
Tennessee before her youngest child was born Nov 18, 1840.
3. Henry Cagle, Jr. 1780-1857
Henry Cagle, Jr. sold his property in Cabarrus Co. NC in 1828. By
1830, he
is enumerated in the 1830 census of Hardin County. He first
obtained land
in Hardin Co. in 1837 near other tracts that were obtained by his
brother
George and his father, Henry Cagle, Sr. Henry Jr's first wife is
unknown.
His children were:
John Cagle, 1813-1879
Debba Cagle Smith, 1821-1872
George Cagle, 1827- aft 1880?
Sarah Cagle Hulin, ca 1830-?
Eliza Cagle Bishop, 1833-?
Susan Cagle, b. ca 1835-?
Henry Cagle, Jr. also moved with most of his family to New Madrid
Co., MO in
1838. His first wife died somewhere along the line and Henry
married a
second time to Rebecca _______? On June 9th 1857, Rebecca married
Ransom
Fludy. The marriage bond was recorded on 30 July 1857, Henry
Hightower, JP.
These are my notes on Henry Cagle Jr.
Moore County, North Carolina land grants on improvements to properties of
Henry Cagle Jr:
1795-100A on N side of Bear Creek at head of Schoolhouse Branch;
1797-25A on S side of Bear Creek at Haw Branch;
1798-50A on Bear Creek; 1802-25A N of Bear Creek;
1821-24A on S side of N prong of Bear Creek.
Moved to Hardin County, Tennessee in 1828. By 1830, he is enumerated in
the census of Hardin County. He first obtained land in Hardin Co. in
1837 near other tracts that were obtained by his brother George and his
father, Henry Cagle, Sr.
By 1838, Henry was on the move again. This time to New Madrid Co.,
Missouri in 1838. The Cagles of New Madrid Co., MO began arriving in the
1830's from the Hickman/Perry County region of Tennessee. Paul, Simon
and Henry were joined in Mo in the 1840's by David Cagle from Hickman
Co., TN. In 1840 and 1850, New Madrid Co. included that area which later
became Pemisoct Co. in 1851; post-1850 records of Pemiscot Co., and of
adjoining Dunklin County contain mention of many of the Cagles of 1840
and 1850 New Madrid.

Henry's Son George was 13, above.
Eliza was 7, above.
The age of Sarah Cagle Hulin was unknown, she had son born in 1853,
probably
her, age 20-30 above?
The male age 20-30 is probably Unknown Hulin, husband of Sarah?
John in Hardin County was 27 in 1840.
Susan, aged about 5 was living in Hardin County with John.
Debba Cagle Smith in Hardin Co. was 19 in 1840.
Henry's first wife died between 1841 and 1849, for in 1850, Henry is
enumerated with his second wife Rebecca. A marriage license has
not been discovered to date; however, son George Cagle, later lists her
among the legal heirs in the settlement papers of Henry's estate.

Henry Cagle is shown with his 2nd wife Rebecca Unknown, his daughter by
first marriage, Eliza, age 17, as well as Jasper, age 16 and twins Morrow
and Adam age 5. The last three are children belonging to Rebecca by a
previous marriage. It is not known if she is from TN or if she was
already a Cagle or if Jasper, Morrow and Adam continued to use the Cagle
name. Note the following estate settlement listing the names of Henry's
heirs. Rebecca is mentioned as his widow, but none of the three
children, Jasper, Morrow or Adam. On 9 Jun 1857, Rebecca is united in
marriage with Ransom Fludy. The marriage bond was recorded on 30 Jul
1857 indicating
the marriage was performed by Henry Hightower, Justice of the Peace.

George Cagle, Henry's son, continued to live in New Madrid Co., MO
through 1877. In that year, he moved his family to Fannin Co., TX.
Some of this Cagle family continued to live in Morehouse MO as late as
1910. Source: Cagle Journal, by John G Cagle.
4. Henry Cagle, Sr. ca 1760-ca 1838
Henry Sr. moved from Montgomery Co., NC to Hardin Co TN after the
1830
census and before 1833. In that year, he appears on the Tax List of
Hardin
County. Henry was married to Elizabeth(?) Wagoner. It is not know
when she
died. Henry does not appear in New Madrid Co. MO records with his
sons. It
is assumed he died ca 1838 in Hardin County.
5. Henry Cagle, b. 11 July 1793
Two other Cagles arrived in Hardin County about the same time as
Henry Sr.,
above. These Cagles were Henry and his son James who both appear
on the
1833 Tax list of Hardin County. Henry and James do not remain
long in
Hardin Co. and move to DeKalb Co., AL where Henry appears in the
Census
there. Henry and James both appear in the 1850 census of Hancock
Co., AL,
then in Winston Co. Henry is a son of Valentine Cagle who died in
Warren
Co., TN ca 1815.
6. Valentine Cagle, b. 1853 AL
Valentine Cagle and a large family moved into the northwest corner
of Hardin
County between 1900 and 1910. Before moving to Hardin County, this
family
had lived for several years in adjacent Wayne Co., TN. They
originated in
Winston County AL.
