Thought I would share this clipping from 1840, about GERMAN IMIGRANTS
================================
From the "Ohio Repository" (Canton, Ohio), 05 November 1840, page 2: It
is stated in a recent French paper, that at the port of Bremen, Germans
are constantly arriving from all parts of their country, to take passage
for North America. The number of these emigrants is every day
increasing; it last year amounted to nearly 13,000 persons, and this
year of which two thirds have not expired, it has already exceeded
17,000. In consequence of this the ship builders are constantly employed
in building vessels capable of carrying a great many passengers---and a
vessel of this kind is hardly launched, before all the places for
passengers are secured.
POPULATION OF THE NETHERLANDS.--On the 1st of January, 1840, was
2,662,489 souls, of which 1,698,342 were Protestants, 910,082 Roman
Catholics, 51,127 Jews, and 2,938 of other denominations.
