Mary Whitley, dau of George W Whitley III, b. 28 Dec 1787 and Rebecca
Louise Cagle, b. 4 Apr 1791 did have a daughter born
8 May 1812. She married James Coley, b. 1807 and they had a daughter,
Rebecca Cagle Coley who was named for Mary's
mother.
Incidentally, George Cagle of Stanly County, b. 1812 was not a "Jr". His
father was Charles Robert Cagle, b. 25 Jan 1786. Charles
was the brother of George Jr. George Jr and Charles Robert's father was
George Sr, b. 1740s and Rebecca Cagle.
Are you saying Elizabeth Cagle who married John W Huneycutt is the
daughter of James Coley and Mary Cagle, b. 1812?
It would be very helpful if you would include dates of birth for each of
the individuals. There are hundreds of Georges and Elizabeths
in both the Whitley and Cagle families.
The Columbus Whitley you mentioned is another of the children of Rebecca
Louise Cagle and George III Whitley whom I mentioned
above. It would not have been that unusual for her to be living near
other Whitleys or Cagles.

P.S. What can you tell me about James Coley. I have minimal information
on him.

I have from a source that George Cagle Jr of Stanly County, born
about 1812, married Elizabeth Whitley, who was called Mary or Polly.
Ive recently seen several records that have her marrying James
Coley. The census records do show James Coley married to a Mary.
Ive thought Elizabeth to actually be a Whitley, using
circumstantial evidence. Her daughter Elizabeth Cagle, who married
John W. Honeycutt, is living next door to Elizabeth/Mary/Pollys
brother Columbus Whitley in 1860. Of course, this could only be
circumstance. But experience tells me that is rarely the case in
these matters. However, I don't know. Any help would be
appreciated.
