Oscar Cagle
Oscar Cagle, 94, of Woodward, Okla., a former Big Spring resident, died
Monday, May 10, 2004, in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be
at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward, Okla., with the
Rev. Tony Barros officiating.
Oscar Thomas Cagle was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Erick, Okla. He was the son of
Granville Lee and Rowena Gibson Cagle. The family moved to Bethany where Oscar
attended and graduated from Bethany High School. Oscar attended Oklahoma A&M,
now known as Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, for two years.
Oscar was inducted into the Army Air Force on Oct. 9, 1940, in Oklahoma City
and was honorably discharged on Sept. 11, 1945. He met Effie Lee Scott and
they married on April 28, 1945, in Frederick, Okla. They made their home in
Wicket.
In 1945 they moved to Big Spring where Oscar was employed by the Cabot
Company. Oscar and Effie moved to Woodward in May of 1985, and have lived there
since. She preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2000.
Oscar attended the First Baptist Church of Woodward. He was a member of the
Woodward Masonic Lodge No. 189 and the Woodward V.F.W. Post No. 1335. Oscar
loved to travel and never missed a military reunion, where he was proud to be the
eldest living former member of his unit.
Oscar is survived by his brother, Roy, of Woodward, Okla.; one niece, Marla
Cagle Dugger and her husband, Tim, of Enid, Okla.; and several other great
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Connie Lee, two nephews,
Mike and Mark Cagle; and one sister-in-law, Odessa Cagle.
