List,
Can anyone add any more to my answer?
Sandra
Sissy,
Sorry, I don't think you'll find this couple on any census because of the time
frame. From these names, and the information you've given me, I assume this to be
Robert L. Cagle, son of Henry Pinkney Cagle and Susannah Mullins. The Spurgeon name sort
of verifies this since I've searched this name before in connection with James H.
Cagle who was the brother of Robert. He was married to Charity Spurgeon. I believe that
these women were sisters.
In 1900, Robert is 15 living in the Henry P Cagle household in Cumberland County, TN By
1910, Bertha is a widow living in the Joseph Spurgeon household in Rhea County along with
her 4 month old (not 2 year old) son Clifford. This means that Robert died sometime
between 1909 and 1910 so they would never show up on a census together. You can find a
little information in Rootsweb for the Joseph Spurgeon/Purmellia Buckner family and of
course Henry Pinkney Cagle and Susannah Mullins (along with many other wives) are well
documented. Hope this helps. Maybe the list will have some more information.
Sandra
