I've already checked the census records on Polly Cagle and according to
them, she was born in 1796. I thought the tombstone was wrong when I first
saw it - she would have been over 20 years older than William instead of 4
if that date had been true. Also, all census records show William as being
born in North Carolina instead of GA. I still have no idea who his father
would be.
My main question really was - is the Jacob Cagle in the 1800 Buncombe County
census the same Jacob as in the Habersham and Hall County Census records
later? I couldn't decide if he was since John Cagle who should have been
born within a couple of years of Polly didn't show up on the census in
Buncombe County. Maybe it's just an error on the census. I don't know why
I thought Polly would be the daughter of one of the others - none of them
were in GA in 1820 when she married William so I was totally off base there.
Thanks for the help.
Sandra

If this was indeed her date of birth then she could not be a daughter
of
Jacob Cagle, listed in the 1800 Buncombe Co; NC; census. His daughter is
in
the under 10 age bracket with a birth range of about 1791 - 1799.
This is also the case for Jacob Cagle, listed in the 1800 Moore Co; NC;
census. He has two daughter's in the same age bracket. Valentine Cagle, of
1800 Buncombe NC; has one in this age bracket and two in the 16 - 25 age
bracket. These girls birth range of 1775 - 1784. I assume that the female
in the 4th. bracket would be his wife in the 26 - 44 age bracket. Her
birth
range being 1756 - 1774 era.
Jacob Cagle, of 1800 Buncombe is bracketed as 16 - 25 year age bracket of
1775 - 1784. His assumed wife is also in this same bracket.
Charles Cagle, of Buncombe is bracketed as 26 - 44 year age bracket of
1756
- 1774. His assumed wife is listed in the 16 - 25 year age bracket of
1775
- 1784.
Jacob Cagle, of 1800 Moore is bracketed as 45 + as is his assumed wife.
You have to wonder if her death date was engraved in error. 1796 would put
her in the proper birth range to be a daughter of Jacob Cagle, of Buncombe
Co; NC.
You may want to try to verify her death date with a newspaper obit, will,
or perhaps a family bible.
