It is not such a leap if you pronounce the "g" in
Cagle as "g" in George, it becomes Kachel and in fact
many people have tried to spell my name this way when
attempting to spell it without help.
I have not personally made the connection, but I
believe it has occurred probably many times.

I have checked out the Kachel name and think there
is probably some
connection, but I have never been able to figure it
out. The Kachel name is
common in Berks Co., PA where Leonhart settled. I
found Berks Co tax
records dating to the mid to late 1700s that show
the evolution of the name
from Kegel to Kagle to Kachel all for the same group
of people. So it is
very possible that is an alternate spelling of
Cagle.
I have also been in touch with some Kachel
researchers from Berks Co who are
intrigued by the possibility as well.
