Damon,
The material that I have seen suggests that Jacob and Charles of 1800
Buncombe were probably sons of Charles Cagle who died ca 1801 Montgomery. A
Jacob and Charles appear in the 1812 Tax List of Davidson Co., TN. Jacob in
Buncombe in 1810 is the Revolutionary War Jacob, 1755-1845 who eventually
lived and died in Warren Co., TN. I don't think Jacob, 1800 and John,
1810 are the same person? JMO.

Subject: [CAGLE] John Cagle & Jane
Still Cleaning out my files..
The latest change I've made is the following:
I have assumed that the "Jacob" Cagle of the 1800 Buncombe Co., NC
census is the identical person as the "John" Cagle of the 1810, 1820,
1830 Buncombe Co., NC census. I have further placed this individual as
the son of Valentine, Sr. This assumption has solved a myriad of
problems with my files.
First, this assumption solves the problem of there being more "John's"
than are possible in the first three generations. Let's face it, there
are only a limited number of people who could have fathered sons named
"John" prior to 1780.
Second, this allows me to place John Cagle and wife Lucey under Charles,
Sr., where I believe they truly belong.
Third, it jibes rather well with all the fuzzy information we have on
the rather enigmatic families of Leonard C. Cagle (and wife Mary
Osborne) and Henry Washington Cagle.
Thus, I have each of the sons of Leonard the Immigrant with a son named
"John", described as follows:
1. John and wife Mary (son of David Cagle)
2. John and wife Prescilla (son of John the Dutchman)
3. John (abt. 1773), father of Susanna who married James Rucker
(son of Leonard, Jr.)
4. John and wife Lucey (son of Charles, Sr.)
5. John and Sarah Latham (son of Henry, Sr.)
6. John and Mazana Herndon (son of George, Sr.)
Plus, I have the following additional early "John's" born prior to 1790:
1. John/Jacob and wife Jane (son of Valentine, Sr.)
2. John and wife Barbara (son of Jacob 1766)
I'd be interested in hearing input on this. These are pretty much all
the "John's" I have born before 1790. I think it all fits well, but
maybe you all know something I don't.
