Cousin Margaret:
This one is a lulu. I have searched four days solid for any trace of hi=
m, but only found one reference to him in the 1900 Census of another cou=
nty near Moore where he worked a farm laborer. The census recorder indi=
cated he could not read nor write even though he was only 19 at the time=
and I think the question is adults 20 or over. In any case, he was wor=
king for an unknown individual who was quite wealthy for the time.
He never married and there is no indication of any offspring, siblings o=
r parents. I expect when we connect him, his father will have died befo=
re the 1900 census. I further, suspect he is working out to provide an =
income for his mother since he never married nor had a family of his own=
.
Unfortunately, the intervening years 1880 to 1900 gives us a long period=
without any known public records; however, I am not through. I just wa=
nt you to know, I have some feelers out in Carthage which might produce =
something. It is my belief, he lived most of his life in this general a=
rea. The fact that he is buried in Moore County Cemetery would lead one=
to believe he or what remained of any family were in financial straight=
s at the time of his death.
If you learn anything that would be helpful, please let me know.
