Cuz Margartet:
The trouble I am have is distinguishing William Suggs Cagle from William Harrison Cagle.
Both, were born in Carthage, Moore Co., GA, neither of them married and both have fathers
named John Cagle.
I would think they are one and the same except they have different social security numers.
You indicate William Suggs Cagle, SSN: 237-05-4741; NC; Born: 11 Aug 1881; Died: Oct.,
1963. William Harrison Cagle, SSN: 248-05-7611; Born: 20 Aug 1894 and Died 25 Oct 1959.
(note both born in Aug and died in Oct.)
I phoned Frye and Prickett Funeral home there in Carthage and spoke to an individual,
Robert who was very friendly and helpful. He says they never provided services for
William Suggs Cagle, but did for William Harrison Cagle. He also states it was William
Harrison Cagle who worked at Tyson-Jones Buggy Company. More and more I am beginning to
think these are the same people.
Will get back with you later,

Lee, did you receive the link for WWl Registration cards I tried to send. It states that
WILLIAM SUGGS CAGLE of Carthage, Moore Co., NC at age 37 registered. DOB: 8/11/1881;
white; native born; painter for Tyson-Jones Buggy Co. in Carthage. Father: JOHN H. GAGLE;
address: St. Louis, MO. Height: Medium; Build:Medium. Date of Registration: Sept.
12,1918. Do you think this is our feller? The death cert. states the dob as 25 Aug 1880.
If this is our guy, he must have outlived anyone who might have cared for him & I
suspect he was w/o friends, family or funds. How sad! Wonder if he was well-enough to
ck. himself into the hospital or if it was a case of he just got sick & put there!
The length of his stay was 5 days according to the DC. Also, I found in the SSDI-WILLIAM
CAGLE; SSN: 237-05-4741; Last Residence: NC; Born: 11 Aug 1881; Died: Oct., 1963; SSN
issued: NC (Before 1951). What county did you find reference to him? I haven't been
able to locate him in any, but!
then there are sooooo many WILLIAM CAGLE's. I have heard my 92 1/2 yr. old aunt
refer to an old man, WILL CAGLE. I hope to talk to her soon to see if there is possibly
any connection. She was born in & lived in Moore County til age 16...seems what I
remember her referring to had to do with government allotted whiskey-making....seems
according to some of my relatives many men in our family made shine & they always
explain that it was for the government. Gotta' find out more about that one.....prob.
true, but it goes to say that they also provided for themselves as well as maybe an extra
bit to sell on the side. Thank you for all your efforts to "give him a family".
I appreciate it & please keep me posted if you have any luck & I'll keep
looking also. We are going to the library tomorrow to see if there might have been an
obit or death notice in one of the 2 local papers of the time. I doubt if there is &
certainly it probably doesn't have any more info than the DC has!
, but we shall see. Take care, keep cool (it is miserably HOT here).Co

Cousin Margaret:
This one is a lulu. I have searched four days solid for any trace of him, but only found
one reference to him in the 1900 Census of another county near Moore where he worked a
farm laborer. The census recorder indicated he could not read nor write even though he
was only 19 at the time and I think the question is adults 20 or over. In any case, he
was working for an unknown individual who was quite wealthy for the time.
He never married and there is no indication of any offspring, siblings or parents. I
expect when we connect him, his father will have died before the 1900 census. I further,
suspect he is working out to provide an income for his mother since he never married nor
had a family of his own.
Unfortunately, the intervening years 1880 to 1900 gives us a long period without any known
public records; however, I am not through. I just want you to know, I have some feelers
out in Carthage which might produce something. It is my belief, he lived most of his life
in this general area. The fact that he is buried in Moore County Cemetery would lead one
to believe he or what remained of any family were in financial straights at the time of
his death.
If you learn anything that would be helpful, please let me know.
