Dear List,
As far back as 1999 a few people were searching for information on Jeremiah Cagle,
and family.
For the past few months i have been researching military records.
One thing i found that can be very useful are Civil War Widow Pension records.
Some can have just basic information, and others a treasure trove of data.
Don't know if any of our members are still looking for Jeremiah Cagle & family.
Having checked my sources Cagle list archives, Jimmy B. Cagle's work, and the work
of John G. Cagle's Newsletters among others there was just basic dates and notation
that Jeremiah Cagle, died in the Civil War in 1864.
Using his wife Sarah Puckett Cagle's, application for a widows pension i found some
excellent records.
Their marriage date and place is well known as April 08,1851 in DeKalb Co; AL.
According to his Civil War records I was able to find this:
Jeremiah Cagle, mustered into the service at Indianapolis, IN on 12-20-1863 as a Pvt.
Indiana Volunteers Co.B 6th.Indiana Regiment.
Killed in action 27 May 1864 while charging rebels near Dallas Paulding Co; GA
This i think is about 30 miles from Atlanta, GA.
From what i have found on line i believe he was in the Battle Of New
Hope Church which
was fought May 25-28 1864.
Don't know about this battle but our Civil War expert Tom Cagle, may have some
information.

Now using a combination of records found I have Sarah's vital records. She was
b.August 22,1831
in Alabama. She died in Simpson County, Kentucky on May 18,1904.
Sarah, had later on (can't remember date)applied for an increase in her pension. She
was living in
Simpson County, Kentucky
So knowing she had remarried Marcus Woodcock, i was able to find her grave record on Find
a Grave.
Unfortunately, there was no date of birth for Jeremiah Cagle, other than a mention of his
age at the time.
There were a total of 28 pages of pension records. I was able to find these at Fold3.
So in closing for those on our list still seeking records for his family i was glad to
help.
Best Regards,
Earl D. Cagle Sr.
