Age 84, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008.
She was born on June 15, 1924, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the daughter of
Martin and Gertrude (Beshinen) Whalen. Irene was raised and educated in
poplar Bluff. While working in St. Louis, Missouri, she met her future
husband, Jim Cagle, who was stationed in
the U.S. Army. On June 24, 1947, Irene was united in marriage in Portland,
Oregon, to Jim. Irene was a long time member of the Pine Grove Community
Church in Dixonville. She spent most of her life working with good news
clubs, teaching Sunday School classes and serving on various boards and
committees. She is survived by her husband, Jim of 61 years; children, Jim
Cagle Jr. of Eugene, Oregon, and Karen Gilson and her husband, Ronald also
of Eugene; brother, Charley Whalen of Poplar Bluff; sisters, Margaret
Jackson of St. Louis, and Agnes Cagle and her husband, Paul of Salina,
Oklahoma; grandchildren, Sarah Cagle, Elizabeth Gilson and Daniel Cagle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John, Jim, Ray and
Lawrence and her sister, Marie. Graveside services will be held on
Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens in
Eugene. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Kriess. Arrangements are under
the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.
