I do not have a William C Cagle, b. 1802. I also, checked Jimmy B Cagle's book,
"Cagle Families in the Southern States which deals foremost with Mississippi.
I would suggest you contact Ashley Cagle. He is an expert with William C Cagles.
On second thought, Ashley monitors the Cagle List and I am sure he would respons from
there.

Subject: Re: [CAGLE] Obituary, Rufus Cagle, 82
For those of you who are attempting to complete the genealogy of Leonhard Kegel/Kegell,
Rufus is a descendent of William Cagle, b. 1803, Moore Co., NC, d. 7 Mar 1864, Louisville,
Ky.
William is listed in the 1840 US Fed Census Sevier Co., TN, 12th Eastern Division on pg
175:
men=02001 - 11001
William was again listed:
1850 Census of Sevier Co., TN, 12th Eastern Div, 17 Oct, pg 449, Household 882
Cagle, William 48 NC
Polly 40 TN
Andrew 19 TN
Henry 17 TN
Elvira 9 TN
Rufus 8 TN
Sarah 6 TN
Sevier County Circuit Court Minutes of 1850-1861 reflect on March 29, 1850, page 39: The
State v.s. William Cagle Sci Fa "Sciae Facias"
Ordered to pay $250 - did not appear in court as ordered.

State v.s. William Cagle Sci Fa "Sciae Facias"
Ordered to pay $250 - did not appear in court as ordered.
It appears that it was about this time when he took up residence at Charleston PO,
Bradley Co., TN as shown:
1860 Bradley County, TN: District not listed; Charleston P.O. TN
Cagle, William MW 56 NC Renter/0/0
Cagle, Polly FW 60 TN
Cagle, Henry Mare MW 25 TN (Listed twice in this census, also listed as head of
household)
Cagle, Rufus MW 18 TN
Cagle, Elvira FW 21 TN
Cagle, John MW 1 TN
He is believed to have died of Complications from woonds incurred in the Autumn of 1863
at Charleston PO., TN. He enlisted 20 Sep 1862 at Charleston, TN for three years or
duration as a PVT in Company A, 62d Tennessee Mounted Infantry, in the place of another
man, R. C. Bates who hired William to take his place. Such practice was common during the
war. The destitute financial situation of William; no assets listed in 1860 census; may
have prompted the action on William's part.
William was reported AWOL in March and April 1863, but probably returned home to plant a
crop which was also, common during the war. He then, returned to his unit in mid 1863;
this too, was a common practice. His widow was paid a pension by 1866. Source, John G.
Cagle, Historian Cagles of the South.
Cagle, William, date and place of death: Mar 7, 1864, Regimental Hospital, Louisville,
Ky; Claim #77174; PVT, Co H, 20th Ky Inf Rogers, Polly Dec 29, 1831 Blount Co.Tn.
William would appear to be too old to be the son of William III and also, a bit old for
soldiering.
