CLAUDE DAVIS CAGLE
SANFORD-Claude Davis Cagle, 81, joined his wife, daughter, son, brothers, sisters,
mother, father and a multitude of PALS in heaven on Thursday, Jan. 431, 2008. He had been
under the loving care of Liberty Commons Nursing/Rehabilitation of Sanford while
struggling with kidney failure for the last year. The family would like to thank
Community Hospice for making his last days more comfortable.
He was born on April 22, 1926, in Moore County. He was the son of the late Johnie L.
Cagle and Ocia Davis Cagle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nonnie Bennett Cagle;
son Chet Cagle; daughter Michelle Cagle; sisters Bertha Bryant and Edith Calloway; and
brothers Carson, H.M., Marvin and Luther.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was involved in automobile sales
almost all of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanford. Claude
was known for his generosity to all who knew him and never turned down anyone in need. He
gave from his heart for the return of a simple smile.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Rachael Cagle Nickells and son-in-law Mike of
St. Matthews, S.C.; grand-daughters Bridgette Hughes of Easley, S.C. and April Hicks of
Anderson, S.C.; and five great-grandsons. He is also survived by one brother Paul Cagle
and wife Joyce of Sanford; sisters-in-law Carlotta Cagle, Sadie Cagle, Lottie Simmons of
Pilot Mountain, Dorothy Bishop of Mt. Airy, and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
They all will cherish the wonderful memories of his humor.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Rogers-Pickard
Funeral Home in Sanford. Friends may also visit the residence of Paul and Joyce Cagle,
St. Andrews Church Road, Sanford.
Funeral arrangements are for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the
Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. Dr. Jeff Clark from the First Baptist Church will officiate.
Claude's nephews will serve as pallbewarers.
Memorials may be made to the North Carolina Chapter of Make a Wish Foundation or to the
Youth Group of the First Baptist Church, 202 Summit Drive, Sanford, N.C. 27330.
May he rest in peace, free of pain, and be joined with his family and friends in
heaven. Amen.
