CAGLE Benjamin Franklin Cagle, Sr., 83, of Winston-Salem died Sunday
evening, May 11, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Cagle was born October 3, 1924, in Concord, a son of the late Walter
Lee Cagle and the late Alice Potts Cagle. Mr. Cagle was a U.S. Navy Veteran
serving in WWII, and was an active member of Calvary Moravian Church. He
grew up at The Methodist Children' s Home in Winston-Salem, and later
became the business manager, where he retired with 24 years of service. In
his early years he was very active in all sports, even signing a minor
league contract to pitch with the N.Y. Giants, which he later declined to
build a life with his wife and children. He is survived by his wife of 60
years, Barbara Sink Cagle, children, Benjamin Franklin Cagle, Jr. and wife
Mary, Cheryl Weaver and husband, John, Marsha Cagle, Craig Cagle;
grandchildren, Candice Adkins, Ashley Hattaway, Benjamin Franklin Cagle,
III; great-grandchildren, Megan Adkins, Melanie Adkins, Gavin Cagle, a
sister, Katie Furr; brothers, Luther Cagle, James Cagle, Don Cagle and
Buddy Cagle. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday,
May 14, at Salem Moravian graveyard, (God' s Acre), with the Right Reverend
Lane Sapp officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be
made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or
The Methodist Children' s Home, 1001 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
