I am trying to determine if Manuel Cagle in NC is the same as Manuel Cagle who lived and
died in Randolph Co., Alabama.
All I know about my ancestor Manuel Cagle is that he was born abt 1871/1872 to Calvin and
Emeline Spencer Cagle in Montgomery County, NC. The last record of him being in North
Carolina was the 1880 Census during which he was 8 years old and living with his parents
and siblings in the Little River Twp, Montgomery Co., NC. After that he appeared to fall
off the face of the earth.
This is the information that I have been able to find about the AL Cagle. On the 1910 AL
census Manuel Cagle is shown as having been born in NC to parents also born in NC. He
also appears on the 1920 AL Census (transcribed as Mangel Cole, son John was transcribed
as Jodu Cole on the same census per the Heritage Quest index) and as Emanuel Cagle on the
1930 AL.
He is shown as having married to Martha Ann _____ (of AL birth and parentage) around 1895.
He was born in 1871 and died in 1930 and Martha Ann was born in 1873 and died in 1942.
Both of them are buried in the Cedarwood Cemetery in Randolph Co., AL. During their
marriage, he and Martha Ann had the following children:
John C (b abt 1896); Nora J (b abt 1897); Elma? (b abt 1899); Manuel (abt 1903); Goldie (b
abt 1905), Pearlie (or Perlie (b abt 1906); Addie (b abt 1907); Cassie (b abt 1908);
Thomas H (b 1915, d 1974) plus at least one more that was born between 1895 and 1910 and
had died before 1910.
It appears that John C married Ella Fetzer and by time of the 1930 Census had Hilda or
Rilda (b abt 1921), Stanley (b abt 1924); Manley (b abt 1924) twins?; and Charlie Manuel
(b 1927; died 2002).
Manuel married Lizzie Mae _____ around 1929. No children had been born by census time in
1930.
Charlie Manuel married Mae Stewart and had at least one daughter
If anyone can help me confirm the connection between this AL Cagle and the NC Cagle, I
would appreciate it. Also, if this is the same Cagle if they can fill in some of the
blanks, including where he was in 1900, that would be great.
