Hi Sue,
I think all roads lead to me as the cause of this mystery. I will lick my calf over and
try to clear my errors.
The family bible of David and Elizabeth Cagle {my gggrandparents}, shows son by the name
of William R, which is William Robert, named after his grandfather Robert Cagle. This is a
practice of this family. I am named after my two granddaughters.
William R Cagle married Martha Ann Brewer, who is the sister of my ggrandfather , Josiah
Brewer. Josiah Brewer married William R Cagle's sister, Martha Ann Cagle.
In the 1870 census for Decatur County Tn ,William R Cagle and Martha are listed with
their children, so they both lived past the Civil War.
The military file on William Cagle indicates he is from Decatur County and he is listed
only as William Cagle until he is taken prisoner at Shelbyville Tn. Thereafter all the
prison files has him as W.C. Kagle with the same rank, company, reg't, date that he
was taken prisoner and location. This the William C Cagle that died and is buried in
Ohio.
In the 1850 census for Carroll County, which is located next to Decatur County,
living near David Cagle is John Cagle who has a son William F, age 12. Also, in Decatur
County, in old Henry Cagle's house is a William age 18.
If we are to believe the census and military files the William F is eliminated. This
leaves the William with old Henry.
Maybe someone has researched this line and can take my fumble and run with it.
Bill

Oh, come on, Bill. You're funnin us. How can you be named after your two
grandaughters? How could you be named after even one of them since they
were born after you if they are your grandaughters as you say.

That was a "funny" mis-spoke, huh?
I, too, was named for my 2 grandmothers, Margaret Emily Cagle(Brown) & Sarah
Ella Wyrick. MARGARET ELLA...hated it as a young child, but grew to LOVE it
& to feel great HONOR in having such a wonderful name.

Yep, you are right. It should read grandfathers and not granddaughters.
Senior moment, but I thought more people would jump on that statement.

I've been living up here in Mayberry so long - I didn't even notice there was an
error. Guess I was being one of the semi-illiterates today :) just a joke - stay calm
people. Micah, I'll pay you a dollar to come clean my closets. And Margaret Ella, if I
had been named after my two grandmothers, I would be Florida Missouri Minnie. Sandra
ain't so bad.
To completely change the subject, I posted pictures of the graves of Jacob and Elizabeth
Gilmore Cagle in Hall County GA on
findagrave.com - just posted under Jacob for now. I got
totally sorry and didn't post any others yet. Guess I should do that in my spare time.
That means maybe one picture and write up a month for the next decade.

Hi List.
?
Sandra, you crack me up! Oh, and sorry to the closets...after this weekend, I'll
never want to see a closet ever again.?Have we solved the mystery yet?? I'm going
through some old files and just now making all the New Madrid County connections. If you
have an ancestor in your direct line with New Madrid, Dunklin, Pemiscot, or Stoddard
County connections, will you email me so I can keep a list of who has research in this
area or might need research from this area?? Don't worry, I'll be asking for
connections with other counties as well, just getting the ones I know more thoroughly done
first. I guess I'm trying to do the impossible and be organized :) HAHA...that's
my joke, I can find things in stacks that even a K-9 couldn't find but I thought I
would make an attempt. Then we can have regions...and I can keep up with who might have
some promising info in an efficient manner.
?
