Welford H. Brown "Bill"
GREENSBORO — Mr. Welford H. "Bill" Brown, 84, went home to be with his Lord on
Friday, December 4, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 7, at Sophia Baptist Church,
where he was a member, with Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will with military honors
will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mr. Brown was born October 28, 1925, in Carthage, N.C., to the late Benjamin Harrison and
Margaret Emily Cagle Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four
brothers and one sister.
Welford was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Hazel Dismukes Brown, of the home; two daughters, Joyce
Brown Leonard and Brenda Brown "B.B." Byrd, both of Greensboro; three step
children, David Burke and wife, Carol, of Greensboro, John Burke and wife, Linda, of
Greensboro, and Donna Brooks and husband, Glen, of Randleman; nine grandchildren, Tina,
Gina, Jason, Janet, Johnny, David, Heather, Haven, and Heidi; 12 great- grandchildren;
four sisters, Mildred Carter, Estella Ham, Edith Coble, and Vina Chandler, all of
Greensboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
George Brothers Funeral Service is assisting the Brown family with funeral arrangements.
